Perhaps that's just the nature of these things, I don't know. I hope it's not something we're doing that makes people feel they don't want to stay or can't get involved in threads elsewhere.
I think (I hope) that some new folk on WP just learned that they or someone important to them is or might be
on the Autism Spectrum and don't know how bad that is or what to do next. And then they find WP.
Here they learn that they are not the only ones, there are actually a lot of people
on the Spectrum. That some people do quite well on the
Spectrum. That there are online tests (e.g.,
AQ). And they can find out how other people
on the Spectrum have handled some common issues.
That is, I'm hoping they find reassurance here that it isn't the end of the world.
And, I suppose, once they've been reassured they leave WP because it turns out there isn't a crisis to resolve.
And in that scenario I think WP has served a purpose even if they choose not to stay.
