Federal Marijuana Reclassification
Hi
I heard pot is getting reclassified as a less dangerous drug when it currently is classified to be as dangerous as coke.I heard that it is will be classified to be in the same danger category as prescription codeine/Tylenol pills or at least this what I heard on the news on Youtube. It will not be legal at the federal level at this point. I think this is a step in the right direction but I dont think it goes far enough because I think cannabis should be legalized and be deregulated and low tax or at most as regulated and taxed as booze and smokes. Texas is still behind the times as usual with pot because it can still result in a life sentence in my home state. No wonder Texas is ranked last in personal freedom.I just think way too many people have had their lives ruined by the Drug War. Honestly, I just wish all drugs were legal and deregulated and low tax but I know thats extreme and prolly wont happen in my life in this country. What are yalls thoughts on this?
Sounds like the direction of travel is set. Sometimes you just have to do things incrementally so the more socially conservative people don't freak out. It's frustrating for more progressively minded people, but it's better to bring people along with you rather than try to force your progressiveness on people who aren't convinced I think. Otherwise you risk an even more conservative backlash.

Good point.Maybe Marijuana sales will be legal in certain counties and states and cities similar to wet and dry jurisdictions for alcohol if and when it does become legal. I am basically as liberal and progressive as it gets when it comes to drug policy. However I just think the Drug War will wind up being ended incrementally like you said if it does happen.I think this is a great move that Biden has made.Maybe pot will be left up to the states when if and when it is legal at the federal level.

I agree with you TMM300. Keeping pot illegal wastes resources and ruins lives while having zero benefits.

It is indeed. Drug policy should always be based on evidence and calculated decisions.

Yes and while I didn't support running people's lives over pot, it made me feel dirty that we legalized it based on people's refusal to obey the law rather than research.
Also the fact that I can't stand the smell didn't help and we're currently cracking down hard on smoking other things.
Yup. I suppose the Tories daren't alienate their Gammon support, and Starmer's probably got the same fear. 52% in favour of Brexit was "the people's will," but 65% in favour of decriminalising pot doesn't hit the spot. Apparently the Liberal party supports decriminalisation though. Not that they're likely to be able to form a government.

They allow doctors to prescribe it now, which I suppose is something, but I don't know how easy it is to get such a prescription.

"Medicinal cannabis has been legal for almost six months, but the NHS' narrow guidelines to doctors have meant there have been no new prescriptions on the health service, according to campaigners. However, patients can obtain private prescriptions, with a specialist clinic springing up offering a month's supply of cannabis for more than triple the black market price."
And the police are said to have virtually decriminalised it, though I think that's a bit of a stretcher. Individual users certainly can't feel 100% safe.
I don't use it myself, but I resent my taxes being used to persecute harmless people. I'm not afraid of cannabis users and I don't need the police to protect me from them. Nanny state gone mad.
I personally feel it should be individual choice. I don't drink and I smoke occasionally and that is my choice; but I don't want someone else making that choice for me. For the self-righteous crowd, abolish alcohol - that kills thousands and causes billions in property damage each year. Also abolish large engine cars; someone might use it to speed and drive recklessly. Also abolish most foods; someone might eat too much and become fat. That is why I am for abortion rights because it is none of my f**kin business. I was taught my business ends at the tip of my nose; someone else should not decide how someone else decides to live their life. Reclassification is a step in the right direction.
