Remembering names and dates for freelancing

So I'm thinking of doing freelance web design but I'm not good with names and dates which will affect my customer service, repeat customers, and referrals.

I guess I'll use note taking software but I'm not sure which one. Over time that will be a lot of people that I need to deal with, any tips?
