They call it a dream because you'd have to be asleep to believe in it.

I miss George Carlin. If only he were still alive today.

Of course I won't achieve the American Dream. I'm Canadian.

And I just love how Americans just naturally assume everyone else is also American and everything in other countries is exactly the same as the USA.

Socialism (or maybe even communism) is the only way the dream can be revived. Also, throw in some anarchy (ACAB, especially in red states).

Are you referring to this thread with that last sentence? If so, I don't think this post was making any assumptions about other countries... It says "American" dream in the title, and all of the discussions are about America in particular, so I'm not sure where the assumptions are coming from.

I think most people in Wrong Planet know that there are people from all over the world on the internet, and on this forum. I think it's okay to have conversations about a specific country--especially when living in said country effects it's inhabitant's daily lives negatively (gotta love living in late-stage capitalist America!).

I wish I was in Canada, and not America! I've visited twice and loved it each time. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Americans don't believe the American dream can occur anywhere but the US, that's why (they believe) we're jealous of them. It's an element of American Exceptionalism.

They just overlook it doesn't happen very often to Americans either.

Sweden has it's own problems too. Increasing right-wing nationalism is a problem there too.

Hey! I resent that! I'm an American, and I've definitely never made a fool out of myself on here by doing that!

What are you talking about? As an American, I have reached the objective opinion that America is the most special country in the history of the universe. All sorts of objective American authority figures and people with objective American educations told me so! Have you considered that maybe other countries just don't like freedom as much? Maybe then they would be objective enough to realize that, objectively, America is a SSC (special snowflake country).

^ Wow, I never realized American Exceptionalism was so woke.

Don't they have the strictest hate speech laws in the world?

It's almost like hate speech laws alone don't address problems like xenophobia.

What exactly is the American Dream?
I've heard of it but never cared to investigate.

I assume it has something to do with money?

My father retired at sixty. He had several investment properties so, even though mortgage wasn't paid off, was well-off with a nice pension.

I learned to play golf just before I retired at 59. I have a paid up house with beautiful gardens and a nice investment portfolio.
