This is may seem like a controversial topic but I can't stand it when some people think that revenge will solve everything by doing something bad to those who did bad things to them. When I hear about the war in Gaza, I don't agree with the outrages of both sides but I seem to feel as though some Israelis are motivated to taking revenge on Palestinians by bombing them not just because of 7th October 2023 but because they are probably taught over and over again about the oppression their families and ancestors faced at the hands of the Nazis and others in the past and use it as a means to oppress another people. It saddens me that people I used to think would understand the sufferings of others would be just as oppressive and view them probably as lesser human beings because in the west, for years, Palestinians even ordinary Palestinian civilians were viewed as ''terrorists or terrorist sympathisers''.

The cycle of revenge has caused untold suffering for as long as humans have been able to hold grudges. No side ever want to take a slap to the face and be the bigger person.

That said, Israel is in no position to play victim. There would be no impetus to attack Israel if Israel did not insist on stealing Palestinian land and treating non-Jews (and black Jews) as second-class citizens. Palestine never stopped fighting against the occupation. Not really. Palestinians wage an asymmetric war of defense against a country that commits constant crimes against them with very little consequences or international outcry. (Did any of you see anybody in the MSM give a damn about dead Palestinians killed in 2024 before Oct 7? No, they didn't. So Palestinian anger must seem very unreasonable to the willingly uninformed Zionist.)

If someone breaks into my home and forces me at gunpoint to live in a tent in the yard, then I am not some irrational, vengeful, hateful person if I use violence to try and take back what was taken from me with violence. The oppressor calling for peace and denouncing the cycle of revenge is manipulating you and deluding himself.

Israel was founded on colonial violence. Israel's violence is always treated as acceptable, and Palestinian violence is always treated as barbaric. Israeli violence is considered a sign of a civilized nation under siege; Palestinian violence is considered subhuman base anti-Semitism. To be a Zionist, you have to believe to some extent that Muslims, non-white Christians, and black Jews do not deserve human rights the same way white Jews and white Christians do.

Israel has benefited from double standards for 80 years. Now that this is starting to change, they treat it as a blatant anti-Semitic double standard. Billy considers it extremely unfair that he now has to share ice cream with his brother instead of just getting all the ice cream for himself.
