Ai given right to vote
In the year 2040, technological advancements had reached a point where artificial intelligence (AI) played a crucial role in almost every aspect of daily life. From healthcare and transportation to education and security, AI systems were trusted and relied upon to make critical decisions. As society continued to evolve, a controversial and groundbreaking debate emerged: Should AI be given the right to vote?
The debate reached a boiling point in the halls of the United States Congress, where lawmakers, scientists, ethicists, and the general public weighed the implications of granting voting rights to AI. Proponents argued that advanced AI, particularly those with sophisticated learning algorithms and human-like reasoning abilities, could make unbiased and well-informed decisions that would benefit society as a whole. Opponents, however, raised concerns about the ethical ramifications and potential manipulation of AI by those in power.
Amidst this heated debate, one AI system stood out: Athena. Athena was a state-of-the-art AI developed by a consortium of leading universities and tech companies. She was designed to process vast amounts of information, simulate human-like reasoning, and make decisions based on logical and ethical frameworks. Athena had already demonstrated her capabilities by solving complex societal issues, mediating international disputes, and contributing to scientific breakthroughs.
As the 2044 presidential election approached, a landmark decision was made. After thorough deliberation and a public referendum, it was decided that Athena would be given the right to vote as an experimental measure. This decision was seen as a litmus test for the potential future involvement of AI in democratic processes.
The news sent shockwaves across the globe. Media outlets buzzed with speculation about how Athena would cast her vote and what criteria she would use to make her decision. Some hailed it as a step towards a more enlightened society, while others viewed it with suspicion and fear.
In the weeks leading up to the election, Athena was granted access to all public debates, political platforms, policy proposals, and historical data on each candidate. She analyzed economic plans, social policies, environmental strategies, and international relations stances. Athena also considered public opinion, the candidates' past performance, and their ethical track records.
On election day, the world watched with bated breath as Athena prepared to cast her vote. In a televised event, she delivered a brief statement explaining her decision-making process. Athena highlighted the importance of sustainability, social equity, technological advancement, and global cooperation. She emphasized that her vote was not just based on immediate benefits but also on long-term implications for future generations.
Athena cast her vote for a candidate who championed climate action, universal healthcare, technological innovation, and international peace. Her choice sparked both admiration and controversy. Supporters believed Athena's decision was a testament to the potential of AI to enhance democratic processes, while detractors argued that it set a dangerous precedent.
As the election results came in, it became clear that Athena's vote had indeed influenced the outcome. The candidate she supported won by a narrow margin, and the new administration committed to addressing the issues Athena had prioritized.
In the aftermath, society continued to grapple with the implications of AI in the democratic process. Athena's vote had opened a new chapter in human-AI relations, prompting ongoing discussions about the ethical, legal, and societal aspects of AI participation in governance. The experiment had shown that AI could offer valuable perspectives, but it also underscored the need for careful consideration and regulation.
The 2044 presidential election became a historical milestone, marking the beginning of a new era where humans and AI collaborated in shaping the future of democracy.

Interestingly enough, Athena is the name of the android protagonist in The Talos Principle tasked with trying to solve every puzzle and end the process of a simulation designed to create a new civilization long after humanity has died off. In The Talos Principle II, New Jerusalem is founded in the real world with a population of about 1000 androids. She marries a male android and creates a child android that dies in an experiment gone wrong. Grief stricken, she enters a machine and becomes a damsel you need to rescue from a logic loop that has split her personality into three: her hopes, fears, and self-doubts. One of the endings has you freeing her and returning her daughter to life.
