the bullet might have slowed down quite a bit at that point in its trajectory, making it subsonic.

I wouldn't assume a bullet striking his ear would produce a loud enough sound to damage his hearing.
I wouldn't be sure he was struck by an intact bullet, but possibly only a fragment.

?Not to derail the thread, but it's become abundantly clear that Netanyahu would like America to take care of their Iran problem. Hence, Netanyahu's urging Trump to drop out of the nuclear deal with the Iranians, thus creating a worse problem with that country till war would be inevitable.
So if Russia , can encourage Iran to War and the US to War..via Possibly Israel ...might weaken the support going to
Ukraine...So less stress on Russias military? maybe ?

Anything's possible. But Putin should know, an incident like a major war never leaves anything at a status quo, and the reslts of such a conflict might prove to be even more detrimental for Russia.

He also wants to give the persona of some type of "superman" to his faithful cult followers. So if it did impact his hearing (which I am not sure it has?) then the narrative from his camp is that he came out unscathed as testimony to god's plan that he lead America to the promised land.
If he'd been killed, I'm sure his cult would have expected him to rise again on the third day.
