I'm visiting family right now, and their dog has been doing some weird stuff. Whenever I rock, particularly when I rock in an actual rocking chair, he runs to me and sometimes barks at me. I can't tell if he's trying to play or if he's getting upset. because I'm blind so I can't see what he's doing. My aunt thinks someone may have kicked him while sitting in a recliner because he always claws my feet. Do y'all know what I could do about this to get him used to the chair and for him to know I would never kick him?

Does he act like that when other people sit in the chair & rock, especially guests :?: If so that might just be him & not much could be done.

I think my aunt has figured it out. I think he's trying to be my guide dog, lol. He goes on alert every time I get up or adjust in my chair and he thinks I'm getting up, he tries to help me. We've been telling him I'm okay, and then he calms down. Today, since we've been telling him I'm okay, he hasn't reacted when I get up except by turning his head.

Aww he's sweet.

Just out of curiosity OP, Have you used guide dogs before?
I was born with a rare low visision disorder that includes colorblindness & sometimes light sensitvity. After I graduated high-school I went to a place for people with major vision issues to learn some life skills & coping techniques. Some of the teachers were completely blind & couple had guide dogs. I know those dogs can be a huge help.

I don't have a guide dog because I live in a rural area where there are not a lot of accessible places to walk. In order to get a guide dog, you have to walk somewhere every day, not just for exercise, but using walking as a mode of transportation. Also, I'm not sure whether a guide dog would help me more than my cane does because the problem I have is that it takes me a long time to memorize routes, and guide dogs don't do that. Also, I'm a very slow walker, and I have trouble keeping up with dogs.
