I believe those quotes are genuinely attributed to Musk.

What I can't quite resolve is that Musk approved the use of a medication he didn't understand (Musk didn't understand? The genius Elon Musk?) because he was scared to lose his child to suicide, but then chose to declare his child dead anyway rather than put his ideology to one side when it came to their relationship.

Musk may be very intelligent but even intelligent people will sometimes make mistakes.

Yeah, that wasn't really the point I was trying to make.

It was more, why would someone who was so scared their child would commit suicide they'd permit them to have medication they didn't even understand, then would declare said child 'dead' anyway. When they aren't. At all.

That's what doesn't add up, for me.

there is the issue that Musk subscribes to the MAGA anti-trans movement so his son's transition represents a conflict of interest that Musk is trying to manage privately while paying lip-service to his far-right cheer squad.

Not unlike JD Vance subscribing to white nationalist rhetoric about great replacement theory when he himself is contributing to the "browning" of America. Vance manages things privately while still paying lip service to white nationalists on the media like Fox news.
