Yes, considering the times the writers of the scriptures and other people were living in back then, the earth was seen to be the centre of everything (although the Egyptians did consider the Sun was the centre of it all, but most others say the earth was) and that up until Columbus sailed west from Spain and discovered what was to become the Americas and later on when Ferdinand Magellan circumnavigated the globe, the view was that if you sailed over the horizon you fell off into the gates of hell. Whether it was written in the bible, or was just folklore that became belief is debatable, but until it was proved the world was round, and not the centre of the solar system let alone the universe, everyone had the flat-earth opinion and refused to believe otherwise.
