My fiance works for Medicare, I can ask her for you.

Richard just because you haven't had a major illness yet doesn't mean that something can't happen. Especially as you get into your 30's things can start falling apart or stop working right. Then a person never knows when they will be in an accident because you can't control Mother Nature nor the stupidity of others. For instance I was struck by lightning that came through the window and hit me in the middle of the living room which totally changed my life. And more recently the neighbor's dog jumped me and now I am in my 4th month of physical therapy for my knee. And no its not that easy to sue someone else responsible when they don't have any money to pay for your medical expenses. So that's why you need medicare or private health insurance because eventually you will probably need it for either medical problems or an injury. While $93 a month may seem like a lot to you, its not when you consider specialists cost $180-500 or more per visit if something happens to you.

Sure you are young, strong and healthy right now and you may feel like you will stay healthy forever. But realize few people stay that way.

PS: I think since SSI is a form of income they legally are required to deduct $$ for medicare since all people with income are required to pay into the medicare system. I don't think there is a way out.

Here in Canada if you have an income of less than a certain number you get free medicare... I guess I'm lucky in this way that I don't live in the States!

Richard there is someone in town that helps with taxes for free. But I can't think of the name of the group. I think I was listening to NPR radio a couple weeks ago and they mentioned this group. You know how certain times of the day on NPR the local KNAU radio station cuts in for a local news broadcast? That's who announced it. You might try the KNAU website and see if they listed anything about it. Also might want to call the public library and ask the reference librarian because they are good at answering questions. If all else fails call like Jackson Hewitt or H&R Block and ask them since they do taxes they may know the name of the free tax group.

From my limited tax knowledge if you make less than $7000 a year you don't have to pay taxes. But if you earn more than that even if its like $1.00 more you have to file a tax form but you may not have to pay much taxes. You just have to report it and you can claim the earned income tax credit to lower your tax liability. I always just buy that tax cut software and let it figure out my taxes.

Hope that helps.

My medicare was free when I had it but every state has their own rules about it. My parents help me with my taxes when I do them because they are very complicated. This year, er 2008, it be my aunt or uncle helping me.
