Going to see a friend now doesn't feel the same

Almost every April, I've gone to see a friend for his birthday at his house where he still lives with his parents. But I seem to think it doesn't feel the same as it used to be. I used to get picked up by either his parents or grandparents. Nearly all the family would turn up but now his grandad passed a year ago, his nan has come the last few times, his brother moved out with his girlfriend (now his wife) and last time another friend didn't come last year so it was just him, me and his parents. In the past, we used to go bowling, and go to a nice place to eat somewhere.
