Her symptoms are still very mild but nowadays they can positively diagnose with new imaging techniques.

She already has had psychiatric issues and this seems to make things worse.

There are now some treatments that seem successful but there's a chance for serious side effects, the likelihood of which can be predicted via a genetic test. She had blood drawn for the genetic test yesterday, but I don't care to see results before next week, even if they're available. From what I remember of my father's decline from Alzheimer's, I think I'd rather, if it were me, die from the side effects than go down the path taken by my father.

At least she continues to trust me. I've never given her reason not to trust me.

I’m so sorry to hear this news. I hope some of the new options will work well for her. From what I understand, it’s a completely different situation from what it was when my grandmother was diagnosed 25ish years ago.

I’m sure your support means a lot.

Just an update. She has been getting the treatments and I think they're working, also more recently she started on Donepezil which I think is making her sharper. She's still at her job although she doesn't work the cash register any more. Probably the biggest issue is that along with other medication unrelated to Alzheimer's, she has a great many pills to take both morning and night, but although she really needs help keeping it straight, she protests insisting that her medicine is none of my business (but at the same time asking for my help and sometimes being grateful when I remind her but other times being angry).

She apparently also has a mild heart condition but she's protesting being asked to undergo tests such as echocardiograms. Instead of being grateful that I try to help take care of her health, she acts like all the medical attention is meant as punishment.

I mentioned in another thread that I may retire soon. This would be one reason for that.

Oh I am so sorry about this, MaxE. I can't imagine. Take care of yourself too, please.
