as far as I know its not technically a recession right now. We have to have two quarters in a row with declining GDP and I dont think we have hit that mark yet. Now is the time to buy the dip in the stock market if you have any money to spare although I know thats pretty much impossible for many Gen Z members. The American Dream is pretty much dead for Gen Z. You basically have to be rich in order to afford the 1950's American Dream at this point.

Every generation now gets to experience a Republican-induced recession because voters are too stupid to stop touching the hot stove.

Every Neurotypical Gen Z American has the potential to be a millionaire when they are 80 Now is not the time for Gen Z to give up. They should stay living with their parents for as long as to be possible if they have the chance maybe even into their 50's and 60's and invest all the rent money. Gen Z needs to be willing to work 80 to 100 hours a week if that is what it takes for them to survive in this horrible economy. However if a Gen Z is disabled they dont have to work at all in my book.

I was thinking the same thing

Due to inflation, by the time Gen Z hits 80 being a millionaire won't even be that unusual (or rich).

True. But they will be better off with the 1 million than if they would have never prepared for retirement. I would not even say that having a 1 million dollar net worth is rich but 1 Million is still a lot of money. They could draw 40,000 to 50,000 dollars off per year from that 1 Million and maybe retire in a place like Oklahoma or Arkansas or Mississippi or West Virginia or Texas or New Mexico. Maybe even buy a house for 100,000 dollars in one of those areas so they can spend their golden years in one of those states. Best to buy the home before prices escalate in those areas. Granted the 100,000 dollar home would be in a run-down podunk small town or a not so desirable area of a city but it beats being homeless. Any Neurotypical non-disabled Gen Z member can make 6 figures per year if they are willing to work hard enough by being a dog walker.

Asking young people in any generation questions about the economy is liable to get such answers. In my generation young people were obsessed with single issues (alleviating poverty, volunteering, protesting etc etc). But when they finish university and get a job they turn into corporate types.

John Bertrand Russell said of marxism, if a young person doesn't believe in Marxism they haven't got a heart. But if they still believe in marxism when they are older they haven't got a brain. Gen Z say crap because they have no life experience. they get all their news from the Chinese communist government on tik tok and they don't care. But once they start earning money and paying a morgatge see how conservative and worried about the economy they will become worried and lose sleep over recessions and banks raising interest rates.

I think we'd all agree, being prepared for retirement (to any extent) is preferable to having made zero preparations.

However one manages to go about that, and however much they manage to save (even if it's not nearly enough) would be preferable to just hitting retirement with nothing saved for retirement.

Overall I agree with the strategies you suggest, at least to the extent any individual can adopt them.

I don't understand what is so fashionable in not working. I mean, I get it, nobody wants to do things they don't like. But idk, this is so alien to me. Why is it fun to be socially isolated and dependant? Work can bring fulfilment too. Not doing anything is so depressing in so many ways. Let's be honest, very few individuals have the self-discipline to pursue hobbies when unemployed long-term. For a young person, don't they want to live a life? Just be shut in their room and socialising only on the internet? We all know what the internet is like. It leaves a lot to be desired.

I think a lot of Gen Z refuses to work because corporations dont pay a living wage. I think a lot of them would be willing to work for a living if it meant they could live the American Dream.

The only explanation is that they don't know what rotting in your room does to mental health. Their loss. It's possible to have something to do that won't suck the life out of you even if it doesn't pay much. My work doesn't pay much either. I apparently am early gen Z. No, I don't understand.
