Limited Diet & BRAT Help
So, as my stomach/intestinal issues are finally irritating me enough, I should try a limited diet. The problem is that they generally start with BRAT (banana, rice, apple(sauce), toast), but only the bananas don't cause issues. Anyone know of an elimination diet that starts with a different set of "safe" or "basic" foods? I know grains are an issue, gluten-free or not. For meats, I stick to only beef, chicken, & pork generally. I already limit soy intake due to my thyroid. I got an IBS diagnosis years ago, too, based solely on family history.
While my NP is figuring out what to suggest, I thought it worth seeing what others here have tried.
Oh man good luck with this
It's something I'm working on too but I'm thinking it might be different for different people
I've limited my sugar
I've cut out cheese
I try not to have lactose
I'm chewing everything right down to nothing
Stopped eating beans
At the moment things have really stabilised so I'm quite pleased but I dread the flare ups
They reckon I have IBS too

Could you try chicken and bananas?

If BRAT is not really working out for you could try the FODMAP diet, which is based on the type of carbohydrates the food contains:

Also, have you tried digestive enzymes and probiotics? I'm not sure if you can digest lactose, but there are lactose-free products in case you can't. Also, goat milk is typically easier to digest than cow's milk. If nothing else works, you can try with Ensure, it's an easy-to-digest formula for those with serious digestion issues, quite tasty too: https://www.ensure.com/
Alternatively, you can make a protein smoothie with fruits/veggies, milk and protein powder that suits you, in you can also put cashew or peanut butter. That's what works for me, when I can't digest anything else, I can eat that.
