The entire plot is spoiled in book 2. The major events are shown in book 2, including maysilee dying, haymitch using an axe and forcefield to kill the last career, the mountain erupting, and the arena just being a sadistic death trap using cutesy things to mentally torture Haymitch. It’s like saying “Prim dies in book three” then make an entire book about what prim was doing in book 3. I think I would have preferred a book about what happens after book 3 in which evil demon aliens rise up from the earth, enslave humanity, and throw 24 kids into sarlacc pits to sell cheesy T-shirts just for kicks.
Druseilla the escort, I don’t know how to spell her name.
I hate her, she’s a lazy character, evil capitol escort, with no soul doing evil capitol escort with no soul things. She lacks the redeemability of the prep crew or effie, she cares nothing about death and misery that’s quite literally right in front of her, and just goes “we have five minutes pick some other dog.”, I’m not going to say that the trilogy didn’t have flat characters, but unless Collins planned to make her a minor one like most of the other flat ones, which I doubt. Then she’s a horrible character.

Rehashing. I actually kind of liked the reaping scene, it took me by surprise, but it’s rehashed from book 1. Protag isn’t picked, someone else is picked, protag by impulse does something to protect someone they care about (prim from being in the hunger games in 1, and haymitch to protect someone from being hit from a butt of a rifle.), and of course the flint striker, I forgot the name of it. It feels like a rehash of the mockingjay, just given under different circumstances (only I guess that I wouldn’t have jumped for joy when maysilee died, unlike when prim got blown to bits by a parachute, from coin, with love. Maybe I would have liked it if maysilee died, that sandwich scene just made me think she’s obnoxious, Sandwich with a fork? Are you kidding me!?)

Propaganda. I’ve only seen one instance of propaganda in the 50 pages that I’ve read, and it’s highly impractical. First off propaganda is made to set people into ideas that they already have, not change their minds, putting propaganda within the justice hall, is not going to change any minds. 2 The propaganda is way out of pocket, it’s more of propaganda you’d see in a democratic society, propaganda in a dictatorship is more careful. Propaganda under a democratic society can best be exemplified by the iranian propaganda you’d see from searching it up, such as the ones in the embassy, and the ones calling Obama osama. (that’s real). Propaganda (posters, I didn’t watch other forms of Iranian TV or media, mostly because I will admit, I don’t know a lot of farsi, and because there was nothing really interesting. However the wax sculpture of Qasem Solemani was more overt propaganda) Most of the propaganda posters that I saw during my one month stay in iran (I was in Rasht, Shiraz, Isfahan, and tehran) were about the Iraqi war, I’ve only seen around five about israel and 1 about the U.S (The one about the US was funny, If you want to see it please ask.) People that died during the Iraqi war to be specific. This is because Hussein is dead, it’s essentially attacking no one, which is the point. The Iraqi war caused huge suffering to millions of people, This is intended to make people angry at Iraq, or sad for the people that have fallen. The bigger posters (or billboards) are usually just a lot of dead people with the supreme leaders faces on the top corners. This I believe is to make people support the Is Rep more. Hussein is dead, thus the emotion passes quickly, preventing harmful action. Of course this doesn’t account for redundancy, there are so many propaganda posters in Iran, mostly about the same thing, that one may start to ignore them.
Now the propaganda that I saw in the first 50 pages were something like “NO CAPITOL NO PEACEKEEPERS NO PEACEKEEPERS NO PEACE” and a portrait of president snow captioned with “#1 PEACEKEEPER” Again, propaganda is to make you more grounded in your beliefs, district 12, hates the capitol, this propaganda would have no effect. Presuming that this is in every justice building during the reaping, then it would simply be ignored, due to how abundant the propaganda would be. The entire games is propaganda, adding more propaganda is redundant at best, and harmful at worst. Again the propaganda doesn’t seem to have much thought put into it, Both groups that it’s appealing to has most likely been exposed to as much propaganda as possible, which would be harmful, it doesn’t appeal to anything at that point, and instead would just fuel hatred of the capitol within the districts; Propaganda makes the group that opposes the ideas that they’re spreading more set in their beliefs, it even semi admits this in the bakery scene.
Please keep in mind I’m using only the Islamic republic as an example, which is falling apart from the seams. Qatari propaganda is more subtle, consisting more of sportswashing, and pretending to have good human rights for the middle east (It has horrible human rights.)
Postscript, Another thing about the propaganda at the justice building, it fails miserably, for another reason, unlike the reaping and the hunger games itself, it doesn’t make you helpless, it just ticks you off. Sorry for the bad grammar.
