I know that I live in a secular society but I still think that religion matters

I think it's good sometimes because it can bring people together and it can give people a sense of community as well

But I don't know why many religions matter

Is it like politics in a way do you think

And why (if at all) does religion matter to you

This question is open to anyone so feel free to comment

I was brought up by parents who had a faith I just followed along till the age of 16. I was always interested by religion. It took though a new turn when I turned 16. I was approached by a top modelling agency who said they would take me on if I grew a few more inches. I wanted this and was approached also by some people who told me about miracles in the Bible and how they went to walk on water I think. They were teenagers like me.

I don't know but soon after this i started to pray to God for a miracle so I could grow taller and become a model. Now I never grew and I never became a model. God though gave me an encounter in church which I went to at that time seeking my miracle. He didn't give me what I was asking but he gave me something else more desirable to me which I never asked for.

What he gave me became a comforter and friend through the decades and I saw evidence at the church it was all indeed real and what happened to me. Sealed but still not easy through the years, but I had my confirmation early on and had to hold on.

I could not live without my faith. It encourages me and motivates me and gives me a reason for my being, but that is me. I don't think I would get up in the morning without it, living alone with an upcoming job. It could be quite easy to do.

I think along as people are not hurting others, then their faith shouldn't be questioned unless they wish to change it.

Religion matters to me because it enhances my spiritual life, thinking that everything might not be meaningless which seems to be the conclusion that typical rationality and logic lead to.

It gives me hope for a better future, loosely guides my moral principles (I'm not a Christian fundamentalist or anything like that) and also helps me through hard times and makes me feel less afraid of both the world and my own mind.

I think religion matters on a small and large scale. Wars are fought, people are tortured, women are subjugated, children are abused, and other injustices are committed due to religion. Many people suffer horribly and die in abject misery because of it. Some find meaning, purpose, and community in religion. I experienced more fulfillment upon leaving it, but I wouldn’t say that it doesn’t matter because it does - for both better and worse.

Yeah, there are certainly historical negatives to religion and to a lesser extent they exist in the present day.

I, also, strongly believe that religion matters. It does seem, at least to me, that those strongest in their faith (I can speak only of Christianity here, as I lack in-depth knowledge of/experience with other religions) are generally full of joy, unafraid of the world, see the beauty in all people, are quick to forgive, and have hope for the future -- even as they themselves endure suffering. These are pretty powerful testaments in favor of faithfulness.
