The video addresses the sorts of excuses people use to try to excuse settler-colonialism, whether on-going like in Israel or more resolved cases like the US/Canada/Australia.

Again it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine if Americans and Canadians can reconcile living on stolen land then its not quite quantum leap that the average Israeli also feels entitled to live on their land originally appropriated from Palestinians.

Most of Canada's territory was gained through treaties, not through outright theft.

General consensus is the Canadians hoodwinked and tricked the surviving natives. And that was after the initial genocide, most of which isn't in the history books. So no free pass for Canadians.

I'm not denying any of that, I just fail to see how you're hoping to excuse Israel's ongoing colonial actions.

It's also ironic that you seek to ignore Australia's history, which isn't any better than Canada's.

This is just your typical tactic when you don't actually have a point to make, you just try to muddy the waters as much as possible until the discussion is entirely hijacked with BS.

Well , one might think that in the 21st Century ..That conquering peoples through violence and outright warfare . And
taking their country away , With the justifications that Israel is using , Have worked in Medievel times .
But this was suppose to be a 21 st century world . The Barbarians appear to be running the shows these days .
Irael and their leader has been condemned already by International Court ...Why does UN not follow up on a warrant for this man..And collect him up .? 8O

I'll leave this thread but this discussion forum is also about political philosophy as well and the interviewee in the video does draw on the United States to support the colonial settler mentality of Israelis.

TBH I think Australia has been able to keep the world in ignorance of its history, to the extent that all that comes to mind when the average person thinks about Australia is Shrimp on the Barbie and Foster's Lager.

I didn't watch the video (I usually don't) but if this is somehow about Israel, please bear in mind that the history of Zionism has very little in common with the settlement of the Americas or Australia, for that matter.

Commenting on a video you haven’t watched makes about as much sense as commenting on an article you haven’t read.

Pro tip - it's better to actually watch or read what a comment is intended to address.
How else would it be possible to make an on topic response to either? :chin:

A lot of people on this site (sorry I am not offering any proof) seem to believe that if you link to an article, you should also quote it (or at least the relevant parts) in addition to posting the link.

I don't see why the rule should be any different for YouTube. It is my impression that people who want to get other people agitated tend to post YouTube videos as opposed to people who post articles who quote the source material and also avoid sites known to be flogging an agenda, or at a minimum provide disclaimers that their source might be biased?

But YouTube gets a free pass? Sorry I ain't buying it.

If you have a problem with YouTube, you can avoid threads that are based on YouTube videos, but as I said, commenting on a video that you haven’t watched makes about as much sense as commenting on an article you haven’t read because then you’re often getting into territory that’s off-topic or you’re bringing up issues the video may address to some degree or in some capacity which leads to unnecessary explaining by those who have watched it.
