I love going on Rednote but man looking at the "FYP" is like entering a minefield. So much "American bad" posts. I get it, that's social media for ya and echo chambers yadda yadda yadda.

I just wish I could develop a extension (think Tampermonkey) where you can disable the FYP or have a blacklist of tags that way you can not see content that doesn't interest you. Unfortunately, I don't know how to code unless if you count ancient bbcoding.

Well, I will have to keep watching content of my own interests to screw around with the algorithm. I gotta keep up watching my Linabell videos since she's my only antidepressant.

Granted, I do uninstall the app and come back when I feel like it. The experience is better on PC although the method to login by scanning the barcode is a hassle so I mostly browse on my phone.

If you don't know where the blacklist is, it's here

What's the situation of tiktok in America right now?
i heard it was getting banned, but i also heard there was a possibility of amazon (and potentially others) buying it.

i find it strange that people are flocking to rednote, instagram has reels and youtube has shorts. why mess around with an app in a different language.

I'm surprised I don't see a lot more "America Bad" posts by Canadians, especially nowadays. I guess we're just too polite...

Not really. :P

Tiktok is still active in the US. My dad is currently using it to this day. Funny enough, I don't have a Tiktok account. Rednote interested me because the Duffy and Friends fanbase is pretty active over there. Also I like look up Chinese artists and Lolita fashion for inspiration. The devs implemented a translate option for comments. There are English content on there anyways.

I personally don't care for Instagram and I don't watch YouTube shorts. I mostly watch through a third party app called Newpipe. Actually, I switched to a superior fork called Pipepipe. Since on Pipepipe it cuts out sponsors and there's a blacklist for channels. Although the latter isn't perfect since I still see conservative recommendations. I can even watch Bilibili or Niconico videos.

Besides Instagram's UI is s**t! They force people to make an account if they want to keep on viewing content from profiles. I am tired of this trend. Tumblr is doing this and Reddit too. It's kinda of like a paywall.

^Thanks for letting me know about tiktoks current status in the US.
It makes sense you'd go to the platform that has the content you consume.

I originally remembered when there was talk of a ban, everyone flooded to rednote. It was less anti American back then, the Chinese counterparts were playfully bantering with the american refugees and vice vesa, so I assume there is hope on that app, maybe like you mentioned you'd need to encourage the algorithm a bit.

Yeah, I can remember how chill the community was and it was like the equivalent to a family being excited over a new puppy. You had people sharing photos of their culture and lifestyle. Even Chinese users jokingly referring to wanting cat pictures as "cat tax."

Unfortunately, the anti-American sentiment came around eventually when some people got into political discussion. It's more mentally refreshing when I am on the Chinese side of the app just watching my Linabell videos.

^hopefully the culture fighting is short lived and people can go back to learning about each other.
Cat tax is adorable, and totally a good way to connect with other citizens of a different culture.

It's unfortunate, but America's leadership is the primary cause of anti-Americanism. Until there's a change at the top the contempt is a natural consequence.

You are correct the problems in our country is the cause to all the negativity. However, there are some people from different countries (usually Europe) who shoot the arrow at the American people instead of the government. TBF we do have some idiots like the MAGA people but they don't represent the rest of the population.

Edit: Not to generalize that all conservative people are dumb. I am referring to the extreme Trump followers that are the equivalent to K-pop stans.
