Russia says the Soviet Union is not dead

Putin's personal advisor is now claiming that the Soviet Union still legally exists and therefore the war in Ukraine is an internal Soviet dispute that the world has no right to interfere in. Trump gives up on a ceasefire after Putin told him "no" and Trump does not want to sanction Russia, but Congress is going to do it anyways with Trump's tacit approval.

Then every former Soviet Republic has the absolute right to apply for NATO membership for the sake of their national survival.

Putin appears to be trying to recreate the Russian Empire, rather than the Soviet Union, in the vein of Ivan the Terrible.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't try to use the Soviet Union as the legal framework to achieve his goal.
