Please can someone else have this, I feel so alone with this.

Quote:
Retrograde cricopharyngeal dysfunction (R-CPD), also known as "no burp syndrome", is a rare condition that prevents people from burping due to a tight cricopharyngeal muscle in the throat. This muscle usually contracts and only relaxes to allow food to pass down or when pressure builds up below the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) during burping. In R-CPD, the UES doesn't relax in response to gas reflux, causing trapped gas and discomfort.

I've had this since I around age 5. Apparently I burped normally as a baby.

No, it doesn't mean I have excessive flatulence, before anyone asks.

I'm not trying Botox, no way. Anyway, it's not on the NHS and would be too expensive. If anyone else here does have it, and you also haven't had stupid Botox, what methods have you tried to help relieve your symptoms? I only burp like once a year, sometimes once in two or three years, and even then it's more like a gulping sound, like when a cat burps.

R-CPD can go hand-in-hand with Emetophobia, which I also have.

The more I learn as I get older. I never knew there was a condition or disorder like this.

What are symptoms of R-CPD? And I have also never heard of emetophobia either.

Symptoms of R-CPD is that you can't burp, the gas just lingers in your throat or chest and you often feel bloated and sick. It also makes it difficult to vomit, which can cause the Emetophobia. Vomiting can be painful and frightening for us with R-CPD.

I often feel alone in this. I did join a Facebook group to chat to others who also have the same condition, but I stupidly made a bit of a vague first post and they all accused me of being a troll or spam, so I left the group. There aren't really any other active Facebook groups on that.

One thing I like about it is the not burping part, as I hate burps, they just sound so rude and gross and embarrassing and I'm too bashful for all that.

Emetophobia is a phobia of vomiting.
