1. What did Tom Barrack say?
During a recent Middle East trip, U.S. Special Envoy to Syria (and Ambassador to Turkey) Tom Barrack warned that if Lebanon fails to curb Hezbollah's arms and implement reforms, it risks being folded into “Bilad al-Sham” (Greater Syria) under Syrian influence
He emphasized that Lebanon faces pressures from Israel, Iran, and now Syria. He described Lebanon as Syria’s “beach resort” and labeled Syrian-led assimilation a real existential threat

Barrack later clarified on X that his remarks were not a threat but an observation that Syria is rapidly rebuilding and investing—adding he believed Syria seeks “co‑existence and mutual prosperity” with a sovereign Lebanon.

2. Syrian journalists voicing annexation ideas
-Multiple voices on Syrian media and social platforms echoed that, by the same dynamics Barrack highlighted, Lebanon could be “annexed” or reintegrated into Greater Syria.
-On X and similar forums, users suggested Lebanon will naturally drift under Syrian sway, many echoing the term "Bilad al‑Sham" and describing annexation as a goal—though these appear as sentiment rather than official policy.
- Kamal al‑Labwani is a well-known Syrian opposition figure—former political prisoner, doctor, and author, who’s been active for years critiquing both the Assad regime and regional politics
In a July 7, 2025 interview aired on “Spot Shot TV,” he made several striking declarations:
> Rejects Lebanese sovereignty: He stated Syria “does not recognize Lebanon as a state,” calling it a fabricated, “historical lie” created by French colonialism
> Territorial claims: He asserted that Syrian cities like Tripoli, Sidon, and the Bekaa Valley are inherently Syrian, and it’s Syria’s “right” to reclaim them—“by force if necessary” .
> Population argument: He claimed that Lebanese Shi’a majority are essentially Syrian, placing modern Lebanon under Syrian demographic and political control
These ideas clearly echo the rhetoric of Lebanon’s annexation or reintegration under Syrian authority.
Yikes! I'm very sorry to hear this.
Is there any chance these Syrians could compromise and take only Hezbollah-land, leaving northern Lebanon alone?

^ That’s the result of Hezbollah’s foreign policies:
- Intervening in the Syrian civil war (something that was none of our business) and taking a side. That side ultimately lost.
- Joining Hamas in the war and launching the October 8th, 2023 attacks.
This is what happens when you have a rogue, traitorous group that serves the interests of another country (Iran) and meddles in affairs that eventually blow up in our faces.
