Apparently friends who are not really genuine buddies will make you feel welcome in the short term then 'drop you in the dirt'

What does 'drop you in the dirt' mean exactly?

I think it means they will just discard you like you meant nothing and the dirt is maybe added to stress that point? I.e, they don't care if you get dirty/they don't care about your wellbeing.

I mean, that is my guess, I'm not entirely sure? In any case, the friends who would do this are not worth being friends with in the first place.

A quick search reveals -

Quote:
"Drop you in the dirt" typically means to defeat or humiliate someone, often in a competitive context. It can also imply leaving someone in a vulnerable or disadvantaged position.

Ah, sorry, I did actually search but I must have missed this result, the last time I did as I only noticed a return result of "drop in the bucket" meaning, the first time around:

Anyway, I searched again to build upon CF's relevant answer:

Looks like you're also using Duck Duck Go and got the exact same first result I did, which I copy/pasted.
But yeah, thanks for displaying the same thing again - it helps. /s :jester:

^ Yours didn't include contextual usage or related expressions though?

You aren't in a very forgiving mood today are you?

I provided an answer for what the OP was asking. You provided the exact same thing, including a lengthy AI rewording of what it had just said so effectively twice, plus an answer to a different question.

Not very forgiving? Pah, quite the opposite - but there are limits.
