"Expert Says Collapse of Human Civilization Looks Like the Most Likely Scenario"

Quote:
New research is warning that the most likely outcome is that human civilization is poised for collapse.

As The Guardian reports, a sweeping new historical survey that analyzes 5,000 years and the collapse of more than 400 societies makes the case that we're in for a rude awakening.

"We can’t put a date on Doomsday, but by looking at the 5,000 years of [civilisation], we can understand the trajectories we face today — and self-termination is most likely," Luke Kemp, research fellow at the Center for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge, told the British newspaper.

Um...guess which U.S. president is mentioned by name...

^^^ It's now well established, the odds keep shortening how quickly it will happen. Currently we have 10 years.

Best get my bucket list crossed off.

Why do these experts that predict such doom choose to go on living?

But then again, I'm not sure why I choose to go on living, either.

Exactly. All that hype and nothing happened. And they got 2012 wrong. I think they just love getting people anxious and depressed. Maybe the media somehow makes money off of antidepressants or something.

But while they think that sensationalising sells, really what they're doing is crying wolf.

I mean 2012 was based on a Mayan prophecy. Y2K thousands of people were fleeced of their life savings, investing in the stock market on so called Y2K companies ready to debug all computers around the world.

What's so nice about it? The many wars due to cultural and religious differences, incel culture and its violence towards anyone for being born with a uterus, going through a pandemic that the world still hasn't recovered from, or the orange clown turd being president and his maggot loonie worshipers?

Life can be nice, but it would be a lot nicer if so many things and people left and right weren't trying to kill us.

Well the doomsday clock is set to 89 seconds to midnight.

Kinda overdue for some major life-altering event, but between ww2 and covid was relative peace

It was 1 minute to midnight a few years ago. Generous of them to add an extra 29 seconds.

The Hoover dam, as the of the structures that would survive thousands of years post our civilization, features an astrological clock/celestial map so anyone studying it and wondering who made it can date it...

Best get my bucket list crossed off.

If there is any basis to the exponential growth o f these types of AI , We will be only following the normal procession of
Societies in the past . And so this form of epoch. Will end , perhaps even before the next global Ice pak melts .
My sympathies to all those generations of humans that came after my own. It has been long forcast by , others even many older sci fi writers seemed to have anticipated these senarios many years in the past . Even if we manage to get our species off the planet , the AI infection will most likely follow . But this is merely a doomsday senario that has yet to come . Hopefully?

I think the scenario assumes 1) AI sentience and/or II) AI going rogue and/or III) Abuse of AI unleashed in war and/or IV) Abuse of AI unleashed as some kind of virus

Last two III) and IV) are very very likely.
