I didn't choose to be born in North America.

I wish I wasn't born into North America's celebrity obsessed, fashion crazy, oversexed culture. It seems that all that Canadians and Americans care about are hot celebrities and who's in bed with who. They also want to see what celebrities are wearing, so that they can copy them. American soap operas are also dripping with sex and partial nudity. Big, strong men getting intimate with their tiny little Twiggys. I also wish that I wasn't born into North American culture so that I can sing German songs during karaoke. Sied gets to sing in his language. Why don't I get to sing in German? All I want to do is share just one little Christmas song with the other clubhouse members, especially the second verse, but I foiled things up for myself in the past by singing that soldier's love song, Lili Marleen and I wish I had a time machine so I can replace that song with English language songs just so I can sing this version of O Tannenbaum.

I promise that I won't complain about North America in the other sections from now on.

Lili Marlene is also a nice song... and was appreciated by allied forces as well.
(Marlene Dietrich version was even recorded by usa or uk if my memory serves me proper but incomplete info)

Well, I didn’t either, but I chose where I live now. Is France as obsesses with the same things? I wouldn’t be surprised but I’ll never know as I have no TV (french TV is dire!) and buy no magasines or news papers. Sorted!

I didn't think Canada was all that obsessed with celebrities, unless they were born in Canada, maybe. But the US is just ugh. They love their sleaze and scandal and the gossip mongers asking invasive questions. No wonder so many celebs loose it mentally, they gain half a pound and it's all over the news. The media loves trashing aging celebrities for getting a gray hair or a wrinkle, because Western culture hates older people and sees them all as a burden, not unlike disabled or neurodivergent people.

And European countries are pretty bad when it comes to celebrities, too.

Thank you very much for sharing the song, CockneyRebel. I enjoyed it a lot. The second verse is indeed lovely.

I am very sorry you can't sing it at your clubhouse.

I am in Ireland. To be honest, we also complain quite a bit about North America. I think I would find it hard to live there.

Wherever you are physically, I am very glad you are here on Wrong Planet.

I'm going to be taking a break from karaoke for at least a few months. If it's not going to lift me up, I'm better off going back to my place around 1 on Mondays and working on my crafts. Either that or going on a nice 2 hour walk.
