Do I? Does Alex? What if I would like to use what I write elsewhere? Use what I have written and do a copyright later? I wouldn't steal someone elses work and try to make it my own, some might. That leaves a question in my mind.

I'm confused; does this mean that it would be a bad idea to post anything in a thread such as this one?:

Shouldn't a warning about this be stickied at the top in the "Art, Writing, and Music" forum, just so people will have the opportunity to think twice?

Understand something about what is there, but might not be obvious. That agreement also stops someone from ripping off what you wrote and tacking their name to it. Alex is fully capeable of speaking for himself, this is just my take on it and I don't want to start something. This was brought up several times else where in the same thread and I figured enough toying around with what if's. Find out for sure. And the link was pretty clear, you just need to think about all sides of it.

It is easy to make the mental leap that Alex is out to use all this stuff for his own. I think otherwise and have yet to see it even glance in that direction. And that statement alone is OT.

I also don't call anyone sir, unless they have earned that right. Hold over from having to salute officers that had no right to the term other then an act of congress.

My interpretation of the TOS is you are not transferring the sole rights to your posts to WP. Your merely giving WP full rights to use those post also.

If your a writer and want to promote your work but maintain sole rights then you should provide links to your website with that content.

I can see a scenario, where it would get used.
For example, Alex may choose to write a book
about AS, and use some of the writings submitted
as examples of what we are capable of. Really, I'd
just not post anything on the web, anywhere, if you
wish to publish it yourself.

You hold the foremost ownership of your intellectual property and comments, unless it's produced during work hours at a company or organisation. However, by posting you agree to the TOS which say that WP can use it as well, and you give them the right to copy them. The items in question are accredited to the original creator.

TheMachine1 and calandale,

Agreed. If I'm not capable of reformating what I write into another form to get the point across, I probably shouldn't be thinking about it either. To put up something in it's final form, is asking for trouble, unless you have the rules correct. It isn't all that hard to get a copyright. Had one myself years ago. Anything I have written seriously, I have to force myself to keep it up. In hind sight they now look like very poor rough drafts. Going to be interesting later, as I become used to this whole writing thing what I might do with the same paragraph/s. I think it was Mailer that said, if I don't cringe when I read it, it's ok. I'm still cringing.

As to Alex and his future plans I have no idea. I have my own views on the site and lack of abiltiy to "donate" to the cause. I can easily see why it isn't there. The fact that Alex is aspie himself, well, anything he might write even if using content here, I look at as furthering the cause. Profit or not. I have never been against money, I happen to like it and I know others do too. Hard to live without it.

Lol, I'm tired of talking as if Alex is in the third person. But given his position I also understand not getting involved in this too. Moderators and site admins have nasty job and I thank those that do it.

It is double edged thing that applies to all forums. Meaning the site is not responsible for what you write, but at the same time they own the content. But the first part is sort of tentative under the law; there have been a lot of almost test cases, concerning people getting 'offended'.

Here is an explanation of what it may mean: WP owns rights to the content. The poster owns his individual submissions (unless they contain other people's copyrighted work) but grants WP rights to use the content. Anubis summed it up.
