Has wp allied for charitable status is it intending to?

It would be good to know if they publish their accounts aswell.

I'm currently investigating the best type of entity to create Wrong Planet under. As I've noted on the Supporter page, any current donations are not tax deductible, but are greatly appreciated.

Nonprofit status would allow people to deduct the amount of donations from their taxes, but would also require me to spend money on an accountant. I'd like to hear suggestions from others as to your ideas.

Sure I realise it is balancing act, may not necessarily be worth it.

Publishing accounts is generally appreciated / encouraged when it is a support site.

i dont think theres anything wrong with asking for donations, frankly i would have done it alot sooner. running websites, especially forums is expencive. i may give alot or i may give a little, and it will probably be sometime around the first of the month in the form of a check.

I don't want those less financially fortunate aspies to feel obligated to donate if they don't have the money but I do want to give that option to people. Server costs have started to become a lot more expensive than I realized. When WP started, the costs were very inexpensive compared to now. I'm contemplating running WP on two separate servers (the webserver on one machine, the database on the other) which may double the price I'm spending right now. That won't happen until we completely outgrow our current server.

Perhaps some sort of indication as to where the money goes would be a reasonable expectation. Of course, it would be great to have some community suggestions as to what is most important in terms of deciding where the money goes and doesn't go.

I have a suggestion that someone else suggested to me

maybe, before anyone thinks about donations, that Alex lists exactly what his expenses are for running this site, I've never liked the idea of Alex asking people to donate but if they choose to maybe they should know what their money is contributing to

US$280 is a lot of money to spend on hosting costs, so if the donors know what parts of that their money goes towards then people might not be so put off donating

a quick question, do charitable organizations like the salvation army and soup kitchens give a detailed report on where there money is going? the whole point in donations in my opinion is just to give and not hold people to "i'll give if i can see where it is going" that kindof defeats the purpose of charity. in any regards i doubt alex wants to line his pockets fat with this site.
