Obsession with time and dates
I've heard that some Aspies are obsessed with the passage of time and dates. I can say this is true with me. After watching an old television show I have to know what year it came out. I watch with awe. Every year at Christmas I watch the Charlie Brown Christmas Story. I wait for the old date to be shown at the end. I imagine all the kids that are now adults who have watched this over the decades. Sometimes it makes me sad and I don't know why. I'll count all the time how many years I've been out of high school or college. Does anyone else do this? Are we crazy?
I do the same thing. Whenever I watch a movie, it is very important to me to know what year it was made. For example, I watched The Picture of Dorian Gray on Saturday night/Sunday morning, and it was very important for me to establish that it was made (or released) in 1945, right after the end of the war in Europe. I do the same thing with music, books, paintings, etc. I guess it is just a way to organize and contextualize material.
I also often measure things against personal milestones. For example, I am 40, and I think "20 years ago I was 20" -- and I remember what it was like to be 20 -- and then I think "in 20 years I'll be 60" -- and I then get sick thinking how old that seems, and how soon it will be here (considering how quickly the last 20 passed).
