Hi I'm new here. If anyone else is new they can talk here too. I'm also a bit new to forums. My main hobby is computer game development, which is the course I will be taking at university later this year. I've applied for a few different Forums and I'm trying each one out. Your is probably the best one at the moment you'll be glad to hear. So if there is anyone else who's new can they introduce themselves.

Welcome, John.

I think this is a very good board as well. I'm glad you found us! Please jump right in and post on the other forums if you feel confortable with it.

My son also wants to design computer games. He's only in middle school so they has quite some time before he needs to get serious about it though.

I didn't realize one could take game design courses in college but it makes sense. In your experience, do many schools offer classes like this?

I think you misread my last post. I'm going to be doing computer games development which is more about programming, 3D modeling and 3D animation than design and I am doing it at university not college. At college I did a course on Computing. There is a computer games development course at university though. Well, at least there is in the university I'm going to. I was thinking that if I don't like development I could do design instead.

Yes, I did.

At my physcial locale, "college" and "university" is used almost interchangable. From your post, it seems you are using them to mean two different things? I am confused but that's not usual or important.

Hi John!

I just finished my bachelor's in computer art and I'm in the process of applying for game design jobs. Are you more into the art side or the coding side of it? Where are you going to school?

Actually, by this point, you can get a degree in game design specifically. A few of the better college game design programs: Digipen (http://www.digipen.edu), Full Sail (http://www.fullsail.edu), and Savannah College of Art and Design(http://www.scad.edu).

Are you Canadian, by any chance? We generally use university to refer to the "higher level" post-secondary schools (bachelor's degrees, masters, Ph.D, etc.) whereas college usually refers to community colleges or trade schools. There are probably exceptions, though. I gather that in the U.S., college usually refers to what most Canadians would call University.

Yes, "college" in the USA is what many other English-speaking countries call "university." In the USA, a university means a LARGE institution, comprised of smaller units called colleges. But no matter the size, in the USA you always say "I'm going to college," not "I'm going to university."

Where I come from you go to high-school, then college, then university. As for which country I'm from I won't tell you. Many people believe me to be from the USA.
