i read someone about a survey that most Americans want to expel evolution from educational system ...wtf?? This really cracked me up , even here in Lebanon ,which is a very religious country, are teaching the evolution for decades in public/private schools and no one tried to expel it , not even the cheikhs and clerics who have great authority here ! !! I mean what next Americans want to expel from Schools? Geography ? Geology because it proves that earth is old and so disapproves the Bible? Space science? the whole biology ? ancient history? ruins studies ?? I mean wtf is wrong with you Americans ? How the greatest nation can have most of its people think like this? You want to go 1000 years backward?

This is another proof that religion is one of the main factors of RETARDATION and STUPIDITY in a society . I think that your biggest threat is not the middle east ....but it's your blind faith in the Bible .

Hm... I haven't noticed all that many people clamoring for a removal of evolution from the curriculum. Where did you find that survey? My guess is it came from a lobbying group of fringe lunatics desperately trying to attach some credibility to their cause and using faulty methodology. I am a Christian, and I see no conflict between my religion and modern science. The Bible is not a science textbook, if it was we would see some eexplanations of classical mechanics in Deuteronomy. We do have a couple people here who refuse to accept modern science and who try desperately to find some excuse to adhere to their twisted interpretation of the BIble. But most Americans are not particularly religious, and most American Christians do not oppose the teaching of evolution.

there is a high probability that most Americans dont give a shite what is taught in schools. your suvery is bunk though, it smacks of propaganda. "RETARDATION and STUPIDITY" are not the USA's biggest problems, In my opinion its the apathy and media mind control that runs rampant here... when people believe whatever they read and are told and dont even have the ability to make up their own mind. the biggest crime of all is stealing from the people and having them honor you for it.

Expel Geography? Ask a good sample to find where you live on a globe and they won't be able to point to it. I'd like to see them get it in, first.

after I made some research i found this :

http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=42829

Quote:
- Most Americans believe that public schools should provide students with evidence both for and against the theory of Darwinian evolution, according to a new nationwide poll.

The survey by Zogby International found that 69% of all respondents believe that biology classes should explain both the theory of evolution and the scientific evidence against Darwin's claims. Only 21% of those surveyed said that teachers should confine themselves to teaching the Darwinian theory.

Teaching both creationism and evolution at the same time would be the beginning of ending the evolution in schools ....because always most people are easily influenced by the the religion 's brainwashing than science , especially if the parents are religious which is the case of most parents in US . Creationism and Evolution must not co-exists in school ....religion is a personal matter and must NOT be taught in schools .

Zogby polls claim to be objective, but they always seem to favor a conservative view

Yeah well, I don't think she's to concerned about evolution. I suspect she thinks it's something you go to the plastic surgeon to fix. If you were to look like she does her knowledge of Geography probably won't have much baring on her life.

Seriously I do feel sorry for her, I get bad bad tunnel vision and can't think on my feet in front of a group. Some would say I have permanent tunnel vision and can't think. Those are the ones I like to play with.

What is wrong with Americans? lol, I don't think this forum would provide enough space for a complete answer however the dualistic thinking would probably be the starting point, the whole 'with us or agin us' mentality, the whole winners/losers mentality, the obsession with consumerism as a means of fulfillment, and of course possibly the worst educational philosophy and system in the world...

I tried for years to not be too judgemental and to assume that most Americans were not represented by the media culture or the government, however the way in which I see Americans mob anyone in any online forum with ill informed or an almost facistic national fervor scares the hell out of me and i think in years to come the current US culture and attitudes will be viewed with about as much affection as we now view Stalinist USSR or Nazi Germany.
If you think this is an over reaction then you are probably a 'one eyed yank' or brainwashed into thinking like one by the total dominance of the English language media by US media corporations.
peace j
PS - watch me get a kicking now and tell me I'm wrong...

The US educational system is not intended to educate at all, but to indoctrinate obedience, instill conformity, and train the next generation of working-class wage slaves. They don't teach you how to think, they tell you what to think and when to stop thinking. There's a reason why the "priviledged" kids go to private schools, you know.
Thankfully, college is a much better environment to actually learn something in.

Less and less. It's become the sine qua non of the job market,
rather than a place to acquire a real education.

what's wrong? a disposable society that'd encouraged by all media and government officials to be disposable.

that and a lazy populous who doesn't care about the world and just shrugs their shoulders at their corrupt leaders.

anti-intellectuality being encouraged at every turn.

Another gratuitous US-bash post.

Zogby's a well-known "opinion-maker for hire": http://www.cesame-nm.org/download/standards/zogby.pdf . This is not "scientific polling" by anyone's definition.

I know you'd like to believe the worst about the US, and apparently you're willing to abandon whatever facilities of critical thinking that may be at your disposal in order to do this. Just don't pretend it's either fair or reasoned.
