Hello.

I thought that I would see whether you folks could help me out a bit by providing links to specific articles relevant to Asperger's Syndrome, employment, and discrimination.

I've done a google search myself, but am getting a little tired. I thought that some of you may already be aware of some specific good articles. Of course, if you feel up for a Google search yourself, then go ahead.

Last Friday (21 September), my supervisor gave me a memorandum titled "Proposal of Removal for Unacceptable Performance." She knows that I have applied for a disability retirement, but is worried that it might take too long to suit her, or that I might not get the disability retirement. My lawyer advised me to rebut her memorandum, point-by-point, with the ultimate goal of being removed from federal service because of "medical inability" to do my job (rather than simply "unacceptable performance"), to enhance my chances of getting the disability retirement. The thought is that they may be likely to accept the change in the official reason, if they know that we won't challenge them if they change the stated reason.

Anyway, I have 20 days from last Friday to prepare my rebuttal. As a practical point, I think that the head of my particular agency really doesn't care if I challenge the dismissal, since he wouldn't be the one paying the lawyers. What would bother him the most is the potential of bad publicity for firing someone for being handicapped. I've crafted my rebuttal with this fear in mind, in addition to the legal/moral arguments.

My rebuttal is almost done. I thought that I would schedule an appointment to speak with the Division Chief next week, to give him the rebuttal, and it might be useful if I could give him a small stack of articles on AS, particular relating to employment and discrimination issues.
