So many people here with so much creativity and insecuriy and smarts and confusion and depression and potential and innovation and originality. My family is full of autism and I want my kids to be a part of a community where aspies, autistics, other cool people, everyone celebrated and accepted on their terms. Fot the rest of our lives, my husband and I will be trrying to figure out how to get this kind of life for our kids.
The way I see it is. my aspy son is not broken. His life puzzle just has 1000 pieces, while neurotypical people have an average 250 pieces. The schools figure thriough drugs and special ed programs that they'll figure out how to cram his 1000 piece puzzle into some kind of finished picture that vaguely conforms to a neurotypical picture.
This is wrong. My son is doing very well now becaise we follow our own instincts.
