Banter is one of those things like pornography. You can't really define it but I know it when I see it.

I'm starting to notice that internet boards are filled with banter, even here. Am I the only one who can't do it?

I know what banter is which I can barely do for a brief time, it's like friendly teasing back and forth, but what is fronting?

its like pretending. have you ever seen how a gangster communicates? he calls him friends homeslices, and refers to his teeth as a grill. its very catchy and cool to say once you get the hang of it, of course i never dress the part because gang banger fashion is hideous i think

I'll rag on my closest friends and them right back, but there's only 3 people who can fit that definition. Everyone else I'm not comfortable enough with.

A phrase that I hear all too often in real life: "I am not in the mood for your banter right now".

It is a good way to get negative attention from friends and family members.

I love to banter. Unfortunately, I am not very good at knowing when it is appropriate. Often people say I am being rude when I am just trying to get some banter going.

Don't know what I am doing wrong though - I mean, I think I am grinning when I do it, so why can't they take it as a joke?

I don't try until another person starts it. And even then, one or two responses is all I can carry on. Since I deal with caring and polite people, I don't know if I offend anyone or not.

ditto. but if it goes well, it can be very satisfying.

I am not so great at banter to be honest unless I know the person well. Then I loosen up a little. I hate smalltalk.

I'm incredibly bad at bantering! I consider it one of my biggest social problems. I can banter with my husband and kids if I'm in the right mood, but almost no one else. I think it requires me to let my guard down more than I'm willing to do with most people. The few times I've attempted to banter, it falls completely flat. The other person looks at me like they're not quite sure how to respond. I honestly think that bantering is an important stepping stone to making friends (not just acquaintances). Since I'm not able to do it, I haven't been able to pass the acquainance step.

I can banter with a few friends, but not much. I usually run out of answers pretty fast.

I completely suck at banter...on message boards, and in real life....it doesn't help that I am too prone to take joking seriously or literally...and if it is even mildly at my expense i might rspond negatively....(esp. in real life)

umm....i guess that is all I have to say.

If flirting counts as bantering, which I think it does it many ways, than I suck at it. I can almost never think of something clever/cute to say, and I don't enjoy bantering at all. I consider it one of my biggest social problems, because I feel like I appear unfriendly because I don't respond to cute remarks.
