Montreal might be good because we have a high tolerance level. It's an international city and people don't 'match'.
We get waves of refugees which is old news so we're ready with housing etc.
Whatever your home nation might be, we've got a community of it.
So aspies would be just another of 'all the others.'
Out of common courtesy we allow for mannerisms that might seem odd.

That being said, the Quebec Gov't is insane and we're always fighting racist legislation.
Currently we're fighting a law that forbids 'regligious insignia' on 'people in authority' -
in particular, a turban or a veil. There are bigots in the province and they vote.

The Boston area is very favorable but also western Massachusetts is good too,maybe even better

I live in the far western part of the state and Boston is 2 and a half hours away and my car is not that reliable

The 'ARC of San Francisco' serves clients with developmental disabilities, and also hosts meetings with the AASCEND agency. The www.aascend.org offers resources for HFA.

The San Francisco Adult Asperger Self-Help Meetup (AASHM) is a meetup group with hundreds of members, and has remained active for several years. Considering many meetup groups serving HFA, AASHM maintains longevity.

Your very lucky to be able to live in NYC I grew up in Queens until I was 14 and they really accept autism there compared to where I live now in Virginia Beach Virginia they don't push ABA in NYC as much as they do down here

We aspies don't have an equivalent.

Except maybe Silicon Valley because that's a hotspot for autistic kids to be born (Ive heard).

I could kind of see it if it was explicit religious symbols, but particular types of clothing?

And honestly, I prefer the kinds of society where religious symbols aren't actually banned, they're just seen as really tacky to display if you're in a position of authority (religious institutions aside, one would imagine, as it would be themely/honest there).

Seeing someone in clothing which is associated with a particular non-majority religion just makes me think "Oh cool, one extra point on the diversity of mindsets/lifestyles scale for my city." Er... I don't really mean in a "collect them all!" kind of way, so much, more that it's evidence that the area isn't locked into one particular way of doing things.

Ever considered moving to a different country for awhile? I liked living in Thailand. Lots of people from all over the world and nobody expects you to fit perfectly into the code of conduct.

I may be biased but I agree that the pacific northwest is a great place for aspies. I would avoid the bigger cities like Seattle and Portland. Because of an extremely high level of gentrification they are ridiculously expensive places to live. So unless you land a really high-paying job in one of those places, they can be quite inaccessable. Slightly more rural (they're still cities, just not metropolises) college towns in the pacific northwest are absolutely the best. I recommend Salem and Eugene in Oregon, and Ellensburg in Washington. Ellensburg can be kind of a mixed bag because it is small and tends to be surrounded by small-minded conservatives but if you stick to the Central Washington University area it can be aspien paradise. I went to college there and dream of moving back someday. You can get anywhere in town by foot or bike, but there are also totally free buses paid for by the university (but still free to townies). The stores are quiet and less overstimulating than most I've been to. Housing is affordable. The only downside I can really see for Ellensburg is the career options. You're pretty much limited to working for the university, but Yakima is a relaxing 35 minute interstate, or 45 minute scenic canyon drive away and they have more industry there (I just wouldn't choose to live IN Yakima... High crime rate, mostly conservative population, tons of prejudice, too many gun nuts...). In Salem and Eugene, the weather is mild year-round; rainy season, vs. dry season. But in Ellensburg you get extreme weather because it is part of a dessert canyon; cold snowy winters, hot sunny summers, very little rain for the pacific northwest. Man, I miss it!

living in the middle of mason county, is not that bad a place for this aspie. hardly any people. just trees and wild critters.
