I had a roommate for two months when I was in college. It was not a good experience.

I hope to never have a roommate. Living with family is bad enough.

I had a roomate half of my freshman year. She moved out bc it did not work out well at all. I got along ok with 2 roomates my sophomore year, but I had my own separate bedroom I could semi escape to. I'm happiest and least stressed out this year with no roomates. I can escape completely when I need to, and be social when I want to. I hated being forced to be around people nearly all of the time.

Yeah, it just isn't working out but I guess it isn't entirely my fault.

I have about my stomach issues too so the stress can be overwhelming at times and it would probably be better for me if I just roomed single for the remainder of the year.

You're right, it may not be your fault. It's hard for people with social/sensory/stress disorders to deal with all that comes with living with a roomate.

If your school won't allow you to get a private room (mine didn't at first) try going through your student disabilities service. I did at my school and they have helped a lot, including getting me a distraction free single room. Good luck.

I would say no. Frankly I've lived with people for years and the situations haven't gone well. As an adult now I prefer to live alone even if the cost is higher. I've had other people live with roommates who were messy, dirty, and didn't pay their share of the bills on time. It can work for some people if you get someone who is a "fit" and "match" for you. Otherwise I'd caution against it.

Generally, no. I've had half a dozen since high school, for financial reasons. The first three were awful, the last couple have been alright. Roommates can be a wonderful thing, as long as they understand the need for personal space, and let you be particular about the things the really bother you. So, the vast and overwhelming majority of potential roommates would be terrible choices, but it's not impossible to find a good one.

I currently have a roommate, and it's going quite well.

Whats you roommate like/interested in?

And of course it should be going well; you don't have to deal with liberals every day :).

Ugh, now that I entered College I realize that I truly despise liberals.

My roommate is very fun, although I don't see him that often.

The best roommates are the ones that are quiet, pay on time, and are usually somewhere else. At one point, I was working opposite shifts with my roommate, so that one of us was at work when the other was sleeping. Kind of nice to have the place to yourself.

I am not in college but I want a roomate.
Most colleges have roomate programs where they can make a good match for incoming students.

NAY if you can afford it. I lost a good friend for a while because we lived together. Then I had a roommate who said he was fine with me getting a cat, then hated my poor kitty when I got her. Then I had a roommate who got passive-aggressive on me and still to this day treats me like crap when we hang out with the same people. But it was my last roommate who convinced me to never again do it. He did 2 things and I don't know which was worse:

First of all, we had only 1 bathroom and while showering, he not only used my fingernail brush to clean his fungus-y toes, but he used my bath puff! Guys may not know that a bath puff is like a washcloth but it's a puff. He used my puff to clean himself, presumably even his butthole and balls. And I all unknowing continued to use my puff, essentially second-handedly rubbing his balls all over my body thinking I was cleaning myself. Then, I went away on vacation and after I came back, found that he had had sex in my bed.

From my own experience and stories I've heard, roommates not only soil the things you use to clean yourself and sleep in, they eat your food and steal your clothes. They cheat with your boyfriend/girlfriend. They have loud sex all night long on the other side of very thin walls. They throw parties with no warning. They want to talk and talk and talk and get very upset if you don't want to. The rearrange your stuff. They have entirely different definitions of "clean" than you do. You have no idea what will upset them, and you'll discover things that people can do to upset you that you never dreamed of. They find out intimate details of your life and share them with their friends. They use the bathroom for an hour when you need it and make you late.

That said, there are good things about having a roommate. What I miss is being forced to be social - with a roommate and the people they bring over. I need to be forced or I tend to "hermit out" (my own personal term).

Love roommates - the more the merrier - I have had one roommate in a condo, and up to 7 roommates in a big house. One roommate - hmmm - kind of a challenge with just one other personality to deal with. But 7 roommates - yippeee! I have always had fun with multiple roommates. It seems that there is more care given to respecting each other's space and quirks.

I have found, though, with multiple roommates, you can only be happy if you have selected a household that is in your same primary interest group (then each roommate has their own wide range of secondary interests - fun!) - tired that twice - and it worked great.
