Am I the only person on the planet that found Napoleon Dynamite not only not funny, but excruciatingly not funny? I tried to watch the thing a few days ago and found it to be such a retard-fest I turned it off after maybe 15 minutes. This is one I definitely would have walked out of the theaters on. Yet everyone I know seems to think it was like the holy grail of funny movies or something.

The fact that it is so excruciatingly not funny is why so many people found it funny. :D

So... it's like meta-humor?

Heh, I told everyone at work that I did not think the movie was funny and seemed to be the only one. It was certainly a very uneque movie, but I watched it once cause everyone was talking about it back then. I was sooooo bored!! Everyone talked about how cool it was in the beginning when he hanged the GI JOE out the bus window, I cant see why?

Indeed you are not the only person on Earth who thinks like that!

It does seem weird... but if you listen to the director's commentary, they'll tell you that everything (including hanging the GI Joe out the window) is based on things they did in their youth. The whole draw a pic and 'build her a cake' thing is based on a custom that was the norm in their days.

So there is a method to what may seem like madness.

People at my high school were obsessed with it. VERY BADLY OBSESSED.

I still get the occasional quotage that I hear, "Your mom goes to college." annoys the hell outta me.

I found it funny but highly overrated. I mostly found a lot of it to just be depressing. Alas, what humor there was in it was killed by the constant quoting at my high school. Every other sentence had to end with "GAAAAAAWSH!" I'll admit it's fun to say but they killed the movie.

I saw about five minutes of it, and it was excruciatingly stupid and unfunny.
