I can never tell if I'm talking too loud or too soft. Or if my voice is annoying and obnoxious, or going unnoticed.

Do you guys have any tips for keeping your voice on medium?

Thanks :D

watch the other person, and see if they look like they understand you. Drop the volume some. When they start saying 'what?' or look glazed, that's probably too low. It's not something that's easily explained, merely demonstrated.

I have also had this problem my whole life. I talk way to loud and I guess its an ASD thing supposedly. ANyways I think it has improved marginally, but I will always be a loud talker. I will keep track of where this thread goes maby I can learn a few things.

I have the same problems myself. Usually, I find out that others think that I am talking too loud. This is rather odd, as I have hypersensative hearing.

Sometimes, others will say that I am talking so softly, that they cannot hear me.

The odd thing is that they sound about the same volume to me.

You would think that with hypersensative hearing, I would be able to tell the difference between the two, and come up with a happy medium.

My ex girlfriends sister was way too loud. They kept taking her to hearing specialists untill the family finally found out about AS.

I know that my natural voice is too loud but I have a really hard time talking at a "normal" volume. To talk at a socially appropriate volume feels like whispering. And whispering all day feels exceptionally uncomfortable / unnatural.

It's not just my voice that's loud. I sneeze really big and loud and explosively, and those same words really describe my laughter as well. I have big lungs I guess - I can play brass instruments really loud too. The obnoxious laugh thing really upsets me a lot - it's hurtful that my expression of unadulterated joy causes everyone else to visibly cringe away from me, and my friends and family great embarrassment they never hesitate to inform me of and try to shush me. I'm basically banned from truly expressing the joy or allowing myself the release of a good laugh. I tried creating a cute laugh, but a fake laugh never sounds anything but fake, and also does not give me any of the benefits of laughing.

So when people cringe when I talk, I "whisper" for as long as I can. And I stifle my laughter, which in terms of the quality of my life really sucks.

Yes, I have been told that my laugh is excesively loud.

Of course, that is the one that I can least control.

I get complaints that I talk too soft. I don't understand it because to my ears I sound like I'm talking at a normal volume. If I try to talk louder for them, I feel like I'm yelling and I don't like that. It's just very frustrating to me.

I either mumble or speak loud. To me, my "mumbling" sounds completely normal and understandable yet other people seem to have trouble with it. Speaking out loud usually comes when I get distracted from really paying attention to what I'm talking. Especially my laugh is supposedly very loud.

I have a problem with talking to soft. Most of the time Im not aware of it people frequently tell me to speak louder. Sometimes when Im in ackward social situations I will say something really soft and have no idea whether the person heard it or not.
