Bush certainly does look rather primitive. However, I think your comparison of black people to primates is uncalled for.

Norah quote"I see so many people that don't seem AS in any other way using all kinds of hand gestures, that if everyone who used them were Aspies more than half the population would have to be."

Still looks more like a flap, than hand gesture to me and maybe half the population is on the spectrum - no ones knows.

OK this is getting silly, was just a thought  - and your all probably right, but then again aren't all Apies

Well he did graduate from two top universities.

I've learned to detach myself during times of war. Yes, they are humans, but it is a war. Death happens. Death occurs. At this point, at this time, death surrounds us more due to media and the quickness we receive information.

Yeah, with a C average. Also, the whole idea of top universities is somewhat of a myth. Studies have been done which showed that a student who is accepted into an Ivy League School but goes to a state school and a student who is accepted into an Ivy League School and decides to attend it will both get an equally good education. In other words, it's the student themself and not the school he or she attends who determines the quality of the education he or she receives.

What is with this cat, Ron Paul, that people like to follow him? Is he the new political trend?

I am at Seattle University right now and I have a GPA of 3.8 and rising. I have yet to get a grade lower than an A -. Not to mention that Seattle University is one of the best schools on the west coast (The U.S. News & World Report lists it at #6), so I'm sure I could graduate Harvard or Yale with well above a C average. :P

I think this is just another mainstream media atempt to dis-credit Ron Paul by making voters think he has a mental disorder.
Notice they call him a rascialist and they also mock his supporters by calling us tecno-nerds.

They mention how much of a following Ron Paul has on Wrong Planet, as if to show only the mentaliy disturbed support him, what they didnt tell you is that whatever forum you go to, on whatever topic, if the elections are mentioned, everybody is following Ron Paul.

There is even an on-line world wide poll for who should be president, in the vast amount of countries, and by a huge majority overall, Ron Paul is at the top.

You can see why whistleblowers have allready revealed the ruling elites plan to have him assasinated, because hes not one of them, hes one of us!

So true. Ron Paul was asked to speak at Google and many Google employees seem pretty fond of him.

I prefer to think that paranoids and nutty conspiracy theorists tend toward libertarian opinions.

Does anyone find this article insulting? I do. People with aspergers can and do overcome the odds. I've noticed on this site that some people tend to think that you should stay confined with your limitations or you just aren't aspie. I think if Ron Paul does have aspergers, he should be admired, not slagged!

STIM CITY? Paul (Photo: Getty Images)

In the great tradition of George W. Bush's rumored undiagnosed learning disabilities, might Ron Paul, the libertarian/Republican/racialist candidate for president, have a hidden disorder of his own? Could Paul have Asperger's Syndrome, the autism spectrum disorder characterized by extremely awkward social interactions along with obsessive behaviors and interests? If you've seen Ron Paul on television recently—or taken a glimpse at his platform—there's no question he displays the symptoms.

When he came out to greet Jay Leno on Monday night, Paul walked with his eyes down to the ground. He didn't look his host in the eye (another symptom!), and cackled—grossly inappropriately for a presidential candidate—every time he brought up America's train wreck of an economy (the joke, after all, is on all of us). Check one for impaired social interaction.

As for obsessive behavior: If you're not one of the seven people who have ever cared about the gold standard, it would seem that this is something of an obsessive interest for Ron Paul. It's like a 19th-century version of World of Warcraft.

Even if Paul doesn't have Asperger's, many of his supporters may. Tech-nerds are disproportionately affected by the syndrome, and Paul's campaign—driven by online "viral marketing" —is disproportionately affected by tech-nerds.

At wrongplanet.net, the online Asperger's hangout, there's plenty of talk about the Ron Paul Revolution. According to one thread, Paul "stims," or suffers from repeated body twitches body movements, another symptom of Asperger's. On WrongPlanet, there's also a 14-page thread for Ron Paul fans. Elsewhere on the Internet, there's even a fake, tongue-in-cheek "Aspies for Ron Paul" homepage.

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Paul's techie, nerd-heavy base would suffer from Asperger's. In Ron Paul's universe, meet-ups don't necessarily happen in real life; just last week, there was a 240-strong World of Warcraft rally in which avatars from across the nation came together. According to the World of Warcraft Insider, "The rally started outside Ironforge with approximately 240 players (with 400 members in their RP Revolution guild) and traveled to Stormwind, Westfall, Booty Bay, Ratchet, and finally Orgrimmar." You can't get more Aspie than that.

So there's some good news: Even if Ron Paul doesn't win the election—and let's admit it, there's no chance he will—we can still go back to the gold standard, or at least our Aspie Warcraft avatars can.

It's interesting how the article uses the word "aspie" like the readers will be familiar with it. I didn't know anyone outside of WP and similar sites knew what an "aspie" was. It's weird how the author seems somewhat familiar with WP, and aspies in general, yet uses terminology like "suffer" and "symptoms" incessantly. He obviously looked at the Ron Paul threads, but he doesn't know what a stim is. I guess thorough research is out of vogue among modern journalists.

A lot of the more "trendy" bloggers and columnists have started to cover Asperger's, especially after the woman with Asperger's was on America's Next Top Model.

I think the author confused 'stims' with tics. Tourettes is common among people with Asperger's, however.

But Ron Paul is stimming and not displaying any sigsn of tics.

Does Ron Paul have Asperger's? Maybe, but a lot of his supporters definitely do have Asperger's.

I nearly forgot about the woman from America's Next Top Model! I guess she really did make an impact, hopefully one that will lead to greater understanding.

I didn't know that Tourettes was common among people with AS. I hadn't considered that the author could have confused stims with tics, but now that you've pointed it out, it sounds reasonable. I can see how someone could easily make that mistake.
