I thought he had died a few years ago.

Still, with him and Tenzing Norgay gone, there goes the first people to achieve what was an 'impossible' task.

I'm so sad at this news... He was an amazing man who led such a fantastic life; the humanitarian work he's done was enormous.

A true blue typical Kiwi man with a heart of gold - he makes me so proud to be a Kiwi!!

Bless you Sir Ed - long may your legend live on!!

He and Roger Bannister both conquered what was once considered impossible, Everest and the four minute mile. Hillary's conquest of Everest was mentioned in the movie Four Minutes.

Sir Edmund Hillary is such a great individual, one of the greatest mountaineers/explorers of all time and dedicated so much of his later life to humanitarian work, always had time and made a big difference.
Does make you proud to be a Kiwi...

Frankly I'm shocked he was still alive. But he was a great man, as men go.

Farewell, Sir Edmund.

We can't mourn him too much (he lived to the age
of 88, established New Zealand's principal base for
Antarctic research, and became a patron of Nepal's
Sherpa people after his successful climb); by God,
we will miss him.

"He was a man, take him for all in all;
I shall not look upon his like again."

Shakespeare, Hamlet

He was a man of incredible accomplishment. For that reason, he deserves to be remembered. So many people regret the loss of a person who died young. More attention should be given to those who died old and left behind a huge legacy of accomplishments.

He had accomplished a lot in his life, and he's now in the hands of Jesus.
