I was recently told by my parents that I was diagnosed with AS as a child. I'm very relieved that I have it to be honest.

All of my life, I have felt very different in contrast to my younger sister and to my younger brother. They were always very good at making new friends and being sociable. I, on the other hand, struggled like mad to fit in and to connect with my fellow classmates. I wasn't successful most of the time so I gave up and became socially isolated. By doing this, I think that I encouraged bullying. This is not a sop story but rather a way to find out if this happened to others.

Does anyone know of a support group in Calgary, Alberta, Canada?

Are there any good books out there to assist us in understanding ourselves?

There are other Albertans on Wrong Planet, and I don't think all of them are in Edmonton! :D

Have you seen Tony Attwood's book Aspergers Syndrome? Or maybe Liane Holliday Willey's Pretending to Be Normal: Living with Asperger's Syndrome. People here have also mentioned Dr. Temple Grandin's writings. This is her website:

I think that my parents were in denial, especially my Dad. I got the feeling that they didn't think that I would struggle through life and that I was fine. Little did they know what I was going through on a daily basis.... I know that we all compare ourselves to our siblings but when you're nothing like them, it's a bit hard.
