questions about difficult behavior in the workplace

I am working on a Ph.D. and right now I'm in a developmental psychology class. In that class also is a guy who does employment services for individuals with disabilties and he has a client with AS right now who is causing issues at work because he thinks he is right about everything and won't follow rules and talks excessively about his special interests (which I find interesting myself) . I suggested things like explaining the reasons for the rules and maybe tying tasks into special interests (I don't know what sort of job it is) and also just asking him to read Temple Grandin and Sean Barron's book 'Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships' because I learned A LOT about the way normal people percieve from that book - but can you guys think of anything else? I feel like this is really an opportunity to help this professional understand AS as well as help the employee with AS.

You might also mention to him that he suggest (to the Aspie in question) that he should look at Tony Attwood's site, and/or read one of his books.

I have found the info to be extremely helpful, because it has kind of cleared up for me why others are often perplexed by my behavior and reactions at the office. Attwood is also very supportive of Aspies, in manners such as you describe, suggesting that employers learn how to make the most of AS talents instead of nitpicking over the quirks.

With a better understanding of, forgive me, the NT brain, I have been better equipped to "act" my way through office situations, and life has been much easier.

I am in my late 50s, so that proves to me that it is still possible to learn how to modify one's behavior, even during middle age!

Thanks - I had forgotten that Tony Attwood addresses so much of that - I've never met him but I've heard he is really nice. I keep saying I'm going to have to move to Australlia to work with anyone who knows anything about adult autism!
