"Children with AS have difficulty understanding what other people are contemplating. They do not understand body language. They find it difficult to imagine a situation and imagine the outcome. They find that pretending is an impossible exercise. "

I never had a problem with that!

The article is fairly good... the trouble is that it doesn't recognise the differences between different kids with AS. I didn't have a problem being left alone at break - in fact it came as a blessed relief because I could retreat into my own world and not have to interact with anyone. I didn't have a problem with pretending either. I did have very real problems with figuring out which things were real and which only existed in my head... so I probably looked as though I was lying a lot, but actually I said stuff because my inner world was more real to me than the external stuff. You might say that I was so good at pretending that I didn't even realise I was doing it. I'm confused by the article because it says that AS kids find it impossible to imagine stuff... and then that they have a vivid imagination. I suppose I'd be happier with the article if it indicated that there are many different aspie traits, and any individual aspie kid will have some, but not all, of these.

I agree. The article is well written, but dogmatically explains AS as a fixed set of characteristics after explaining it is a specturm disorder. That doesn't make sense. It also leaves out some of the more common characteristics seen, and plays up some attributes that seem not especially common.
