Since this threadhas been allowed to stand without any administrators crying foul and insisting that rednecks not be stereotyped, I believe this one should be respected and encouraged.

And now, a comparison of Christian Fundamentalists to Muslim Fundamentalists.

Christians: If you don't believe exactly what I believe you're going to Hell
Muslims: If you don't believe exactly what I believe, I'll kill you

Christians: Women should wear dresses and be subservient to their husbands
Muslims: Women should be covered head to toe and are worth less than half what a man is

Christians: Go to church 3 times a week or else
Muslims: Pray 5 times a day or else

Christians: Spare the rod, spoil the child
Muslims: You have better things to do than learn your kids name

Christians: I don't want my child exposed to other religions
Muslims: People should be forced by law to be Muslim

Christians: Westboro Baptist pickets funerals of soldiers
Muslims: Suicide bombers kill people

Christians: In the eyes of God if a man rapes a virgin woman, they are married
Muslims: If a woman is raped, she must be killed for dishonoring her family

Christians: Did the Crusades. 600 years ago. Don't do that kinda stuff anymore
Muslims: Entire religion based on conquest through warfare.

Non Fundy Christians: Condemn the actions of the radical branches like Westboro
Non Fundy Muslims: Side with the fundies because their religion calls for siding with other Muslims against the "kuffar" no matter what.

My observation is that religions are different the same way one 4x4 modal of car is different from another. They are very similar, but not willing to admit it. Do you think the owners of Land-Rover would say their cars like Jeep in turms of quality value etc.

Christianity has had wars over miner differences. Cathlics protestents etc.

I am afraid that I myself do not know enough about the muslim religion .

Not sure we should be talking about it in this way though .

I did not read the other theads; however, I am not too shy to say religion is an evolving lie

I agree.

This might sound far fetched, but a lot of religions have the exact same stories... The Bible and the Qu'ran have a lot of the same stories, yet Jews and Muslims and have fighting each other over the differences between the two books for thousands of years. I think all religion started out as the same at one point, and as the different interpretations were spread, differences in the story came about and people started to think that they had something unique.... if that makes sense at all.

I like that analogy.

Religious fundamentalists, no matter their specific religion aren't very different from one another by my observation. Muslims have just been played up by the media a lot more than Christians have been.

Edit: Believe it or not, there are fundamentalist Buddhists and they seem to be just the same as any other sort.

The thing is, we don't have any fundamentalist muslims here in America like we see in the media. Yet we have hundreds of thousands of fundamentalist christians in America. By the most basic logical assumption of the way our society works, obviously we would be raised to think that:
Fundamentalist christians aren't that bad(queue thoughts about bombing abortion clinics...)
Fundamentalist muslims, who by the way are our WAR ENEMY(queue thoughts about a modern day war against a religion) at the moment, are very bad and evil.

Something inside tells me that the "insurgents" in iraq are nothing more than citizens that want control of their country back, and it has nothing to do with religion from their perspective. You can throw all kinds of propaganda at me, about Saddam and blah blah blah, but the truth is you don't know. All you are doing is repeating what you heard on the media.

P.S. The simple reason that someone woul sacrifice your life for a cause, whatever cause, yes even in the form of suicide bombing, deserves my respect. But I'm also one to want to try to understand all sides of an argument before I make my decision, and review my decisions constantly.

Bashing Muslims is a far cry from bashing rednecks. It is racist and based on a religious belief and is not permitted. If you have a problem with bashing rednecks you should complain to a moderator. I'm a part-time member of redneck culture and consider it good fun. Many of my kinfolk are Apalachian hill people and are also fair game.

In today's political climate, bashing a group based on their religious beliefs pretty unacceptable. I would think that anyone who gives any thoughtful consideration to political issues would realize this. Of course some people just go lookin' for trouble, pushing the boundries, tryin' to stir people up, just to see what they can get away with. It's another form of attention-getting.

This kind of thinking is very popular with the left, yet it is flawed because it completely fails to consider the extra contextual baggage attached to Islam. Islam is a religion of the third-world and has not yet adapted to modern western society like christianity has. For example, many followers in the UK still have ties to these third-world countries, and so are influenced by the culture and politics of those far-off places. Hatred of the US and Israel is common, as that is inculcated via religous leaders and politicians in those countries, and many young "British" muslims go off to wage jihad overseas. Different values are placed on life and liberty, as well. Most Muslim countries use what we'd consider to be barbaric methods of punishment and torture. Some are war-ravaged hell-holes where killing is a frequent necessity; many people from these countries now live amongst us. With that in mind, you can't say that Islamic fundamentalists are the same as Christian ones. They are very different, and very dangerous. No doubt, we'll all come to rue the day we ever let them get a foothold in our country.

Uh, well I can't really say anything about this thread, because I did start an anti-redneck thread. Although to an extent I agree with Mr. Mark. But I've always thought religion itself was a lie from the beginning, any religion. How about a compromise though, instead of making this a "bash muslims" thread, lets make this a "bash muslim **extremists**" thread. Just an idea.

This is a support site. We're about building people up, not tearing them down. I would prefer that we not bash anybody.

I agree with much of this, however, I think also many of the conditions that lead to extremist behavior among muslims in muslim countries are because they live in 3rd world countries, they live in a more chaotic place. If Christian fundamentalists lived in 3rd world countries they'd probably be doing the same exact thing.
I mean look at Eric Rudolph, Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nichols, even in our modern nation they still exist. Islam is, admittedly, a religion that is far behind the times by western standards. But I think extremism can be found in any religion, and is usually a product of other outside environmental factors as well.
