It depends on whether the conference has interesting speakers and free food. If it has food and interesting enough talks then that, otherwise the wedding. Either way I'm drifting around while politely responding to people trying to make smalltalk.

Same question.

I'll take Neil Sedaka. Fun fact: I looked them both up just now and the first thing I heard by either of them were love songs.

Same question.

bobby short specialized in tin pan alley/broadway show tunes/jazz. he was replaced at the cafe carlyle after his passing, by blind pianist/audio restoration engineers gary marsden.

choose one-
klipsch loudspeakers
or

I don't know anything about speaker quality so I'll randomly guess Klipsch.

Same question.

(or, alternatively, music before 1980 or after 1980?)

While I love a good number of bands from prior to 1980 it seems that a lot of what really speaks to me is from the past 20-30 years, so post 1980.

I tend to err on the side of postmodernism in general these days. I don't know much about postmodern dance but the idea of using randomness rather than explicit choreography is cool.

Lyrics in a language you understand or lyrics in another one that are "just sounds" to you?

tough question, many songs just don't translate well into english, or vice-versa. they lose a cultural color and have a faux color added onto them. rather like chocolate steak. doesn't work well. that said, i will enjoy certain foreign songs but not rest until i have translated them so they make sense to me.

I've been appreciating the meaning of lyrics more recently but I like listening to song in languages I can't understand so that the human voice becomes another instrument among the rest, appreciated for its tonal contributions in a way that hearing words for their meanings seems to alter to some degree. That said, there's a danger in listening to foreign language music in that other people may understand it and I don't know what they're hearing in it, could be affronting for all I know. Luckily I'm always listening on headphones.

I prefer drawing to painting. I was given a sketchbook recently from a classmate. Because of her I've started drawing again after many years away from art. It feels really nice to be back in touch with it.

Create as a reaction to the need to produce something or as a result of inspiration?
