Andy Warhol said "I think everybody should like everybody"
While I'm not a huge fan of Warhol and at first I thought that expression was a bit cheesy, it seems to have stuck with me.
Sorry, Andy.
Unfortunately there may never come a day when everyone likes everyone. Human beings, unlike a hive of insects, are by nature contentious and argumentative. Unlike a society of insects, we are cruel, illogical, stupid, panicky, greedy, violent, horny, etc.
But if we don't strive for something better, our humanity descends into sub-humanity. That's why peolpe like MLK, the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Mahatma Ghandi are so precious.
People badmouth one another because it's human nature, like fearing the unknown or hating an oppressor.
