No, seriously, she does. I told her in my one semester of Psychology that I wanted to know more about Aspergers. She decided to look up information. Later, she told me that she was convinced that I did not have Aspergers.

WHAT!?

I mean, sure, I was much different the year before and I act slightly Neurotypical now, but... come on, I couldn't have been 'cured' or some garbage like that. I want to be an Aspie.

Is there any way that I either found a cure (hah, what a joke) or that I'm slightly cured or anything?

I'm not saying I'm looking for a cure, I'm just curious as to how it it that I don't show any of my old traits that I actually can't even remember.

Anyone have a similar experience or an explanation?

Basically, it seems we learn social skills through experience. So you've become skilled in acting nuerotypical the same way a real actor gets good at acting through experience.

excellent mimicking skills. good god .. i'm not stupid, i just don't get why people need me to act a certain way .. but they do so i do .. end of story. the more i know a person the easier i can predict how they want me to act around them. i've been doing this ALL my life not knowing at all that there was a reason.

You may not have AS, but your sure messed up. "want to be a Aspie? WTF" mabye you want to be scitzophrinic too. This is real problem, and unless you get real proof, you shouldn't self diganose yourself. Even doctors can't self diganose. *anger, spite*

Don't get hett up about it- you may not fit all the symptoms according to some internet checklist, but it says on your profile that you've been diagnosed- I'd say your psychiatrist knows a bit more about aspergers than your teacher does. Just think of it as a compliment towards your acting skills (don't try to act more aspie just to fit the symptoms better!)

Yeah that's pretty much the case with me.
People always say you can't tel i have asperger.
I always wanted to be an actor when i was a kid

In a way i pretty much end up leading two seperate lives.
One at home when i'm alone or with my gf obcessed with my own interests.
Things like historical warmovies and historical wargames.
Generally alot of history.
And to fill the time, watching comedies.

The other at friends where i talk about things like cars etc.
Playing playstation, listening to loud music, drinking beer etc.
Smoking weed with them once in a while.
I won't pretend to give a rats ass about what the local soccer team does though lol.
I do to some extend like these things, so i enjoy it.
But i won't get the same enjoyment out of it as they do.

Basicly i have learned over time to feel what is appropriate to be said in situations.
But the one thing that can't be learned is to feel like they do.
You can't unlearn your own logical thinking, and become impulsive like they are.
I can't at the snap of a finger decide i want to beat someone up over something silly.
Makes no sence to me.

To the topic starter i'd say stop making such a big deal about people believing you have it.
Think about what good it wil do you besides making people think you are different.
Let them judge you for you, and not some label.

I didn't realize science teachers now have medical degrees and can diagnose their students.

some aspies tend to adapt better in situations than others.. aMaybe you have learned enough to navigate your way through school. That s not a bad thing. dont worry just because you learn the language doesnt mean you are fluent. I wouldnt worry about it too much. You can remain that enigmatic mysterious person that the world is dazzled by. Of course, they may still think you are weird but WHO CARES!! !!

...I didn't self-diagnose, I wouldn't know how. Just because I was in Psychology class that I self-diagnosed myself with everything in the book. ...Or maybe that wasn't your motive, but still. The closest I came to self-diagnosis was when I was upset that I matched some descriptions of depression. I don't think I have depression, however, it just bothered me.

I really don't believe I know enough about any medical disorder to self-diagnose. I don't even know enough about Aspergers. *fail*
