I know it is an old topic, but I am in a lot of pain grinding my teeth all day. I find that if I rock- on purpose, not a stim, I don't do it. I don't want to start rocking all the time though. I have the night time mouth guard, but it isnt something I can wear all day. Does anyone else grind all day? Any tips?

As a kid, I "grit" my teeth religiously. I loved the way it felt and the way it sounded. An early stim perhaps? My parents swore I was going to have jagged teeth when I grew up but since they were in the back I didn't care and I would rather have ugly teeth than give up the pleasure grinding them provided.

I don't so much grind, but clench my teeth a lot through the day. My dentist sees me probably 2 times a month at least, to do another filling, repair a tooth, etc. It really sucks.

I don't know what to do about it during the day, but I noticed when I was on meds for anxiety it wasn't as bad, or when I've been on muscle relaxers (low doses) for my back, it's not as bad.

No, but a LFA lady at work is notorious for it.

i used to grind the stuffin' out of my teeth when i worked in an army hospital. it was a stressful place full of stress-causing fellow [un]civil servants, and i could not get away with strangling any of them. so i had all this ugly black anger smoldering inside of me that had no outlet, so my teeth suffered both during the day and also when i [fitfully] slept at night, ending up with half a mouthful of cracked teeth. the damned crowns cost a small fortune. i had to wear a mouthguard for many years until i was financially able to leave the infernal place. i am not aware of having ground my teeth since then, as my associated TMJ symptoms abated, a sure sign.

I grind my teeth almost every night when I sleep. I tried one of the over the counter mouth guards and can't sleep with it in my mouth. I don't notice it too much during the day but I do clench my jaw quite often. When I am stressed I clench my jaw so much that by the end of the day I have a horrible jaw pain and a pounding headache.

I grind my teeth in my sleep all the time. It's really bad for them. Rarely ever when I'm awake, though.

I grind my teeth nightly. I have 5 crowns to prove it. I once spent around $300 dollars on a custom fit mouth guard for sleeping. I chewed through it in 3 weeks. It isn't worth the money.

Don't know if I ever did it at night, but when I was younger, probably 4~10, I liked to do it because it felt good. It wasn't really badly frequent or prolonged, so there was never any sort of damage associated with it.

I grind my teeth at night time. Sometimes I will grind my teeth if I'm nervous. Every dentist I been to always ask I do so much. I have grinding fillings out before. When I was kid I wore a mouth guard at night.

Only when I'm really stressed, which is quite often. I actually have a fear of losing my front teeth because I grind at the top instead of the bottom.

Wow, this is interesting.

My dentist recently started asking me about this, and I thought it was just a scam to get money out of my insurance. They paid for the custom nightguard, and it didn't fit properly at first and I started having really bad pain from TMJ disorder. But I've had some form of headache every day for a long, long time - I just never knew what was causing it, and I blamed it on everything under the sun (stress, dehydration, overhydration, too much sleep, too little sleep, etc. etc.)

The nightguard is adjusted now so that I do not have a headache every day, although I still do have sore jaw muscles if I eat something that is especially chewy.

BTW, there is some version of nightguards you can wear during the day - might want to look into that. Or maybe there are other things you could chew that would not harm you teeth. A sympathetic dentist might be able to recommend a few.
