Yet another push toward the suggestion that mankind worship nature.

I would have posted this in the News area, but it's such fertile ground (so to speak) for philisophical and religious discussion,
it just had PPR written all over it.

Ragtime, how can you respect the creator if you show contempt for his creation??

I DEMAND ROCK RIGHTS!! ! We have too many poor, defenseless rocks, without any sort of legal protection. That just seems wrong to me. Don't these rocks have a right to protection as well?

Gland, Switzerland, 12 September, 2007, World Conservation Union (IUCN) –

Life on Earth is disappearing fast and will continue to do so unless urgent action is taken, according to the 2007 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

There are now 41,415 species on the IUCN Red List and 16,306 of them are threatened with extinction, up from 16,118 last year. The total number of extinct species has reached 785 and a further 65 are only found in captivity or in cultivation.

I quite agree, rocks are always being crushed, dunked in tar and trodden under foot. I think we should all get together and have one of those world wide big music events to raise awareness of the issue. Just need to get some "rock" bands. :D

Species loss is our loss

Conservation action is slowing down biodiversity loss in some cases, but there are still many species that need more attention from conservationists. This year, only one species has moved to a lower category of threat. The Mauritius Echo Parakeet (Psittacula eques), which was one of the world’s rarest parrots 15 years ago, has moved from Critically Endangered to Endangered. The improvement is a result of successful conservation action, including close monitoring of nesting sites and supplementary feeding combined with a captive breeding and release programme.

It's the "contempt" accusation that makes no sense.
People mow the grass for landscaping, not out of contempt for the grass. :lmao:
What a thought! "I hate you, grass! Eat lawnmower!"
Psychiatrists on standby.
The idea that mowing the grass is the same as hating it is clearly delusional.

That's a joke today.
But in 50 years, it will be reality.

It's the "contempt" accusation that makes no sense. People mow the grass for entirely constructive reasons, and certainly not out of contempt for it. :lmao: What a thought! "I hate you, grass! Eat lawnmower!" Psychiatrists on standby.

It's your politically distorted interpretation of the (initially distorted) article that makes no sense. Mowing a lawn does it no harm, and the Swiss have not prohibited that. Likewise, the Swiss will continue to eat meat, while prohibiting gratuitous cruelty to animals. The person who delights in torturing animals is a psychopath, and so is the person who enjoys tearing up a landscape.

Yes, but "tearing up a landscape" will eventually be defined as mowing the grass.
That's the point I'm making.
In 10 or 20 years, when mowing the grass is frowned upon as cruel and callous,
you'll be further down the slope of liberalism, and saying to me, "But, Ragtime, no one's suggesting
that simply owning a plant is slavery, but rather that forcing it to swelter by a hot window in the sun
all day long is cruel and inhuman."

Frankly, I think this is a joke at the expense of obnoxious vegans. If so, it is long overdue.

Don't forget, animal rights used to be a joke. Few took it very seriously.
If you owned an animal, that was it: it was yours to do with as you pleased,
since probably all you pleased to do with it was either own it as a pet,
or raise it as food or farm labor -- none of which was considered cruel.
People work, and that's not cruel, so why shouldn't animals work too?

Liberalism seeks to eventually make mankind the punchline to every joke that ever began, "Who would be stupid enough to..."

It still is a joke, including amongst liberals. Vegans, particularly those affiliated with PETA, are annoying prats.

It's a joke among liberals? Are you serious? Then who are all those babes who won't wear fur or leather on principle, or use any animal product? Sure, they'll buy sneakers manufactured by 10-year-old Pedro working 16 hours a day in a sweatshop in Latin America, but animals? Why, they're sacred! Even dead animals, i.e. leather and fur!
These people are everywhere, and I don't think they're all PETA gals.

The left is always slowly and eventually pulled further left by its fringe groups, like PETA, and this trend never ends, except for those certain liberals who eventually have had enough, and become conservatives.

Wanting to protect endangered species of plants is equivalent to being a PETA nut? Ragtime needs to take an ecology class, oh wait, that probably won't work because he probably thinks ecology is a left-wing conspiracy to destroy Capitalism.
