Hello everybody!
I have AS, self diag.
Having a very hard time getting a job. I hate interviews. get past one, then go to the second one. Damn screening interviews, I can do the work, but, they don't give me a chance to prove it. I keep getting similar responses, rejection letters, "you are very skilled but your experience is not a good fit with our company." I can't even get a job as a custodian or ditch digger (not that I want to do that.). Feel like I'm being discriminated against. Job description: must be clean cut, outgoing, positive attitude, customer service oriented, highly confident, assertive, speak clearly / concisely, ask many questions, eager, very pleasent smiling, etc.
most jobs are like that...
It's depressing applying for jobs and being ignored or rejected so many times. Five years and no job. I live at my Mom's house.

Anyway, I do volunteer work, sometimes get paid (very little).
I do background acting, extra, some modeling. I have trouble memorizing lines and stutter sometimes, so its hard to get lead roles. I do this once every 1-3 weeks.
I like acting, don't know how to make a caeer of it w/o moving to LA. I live in OR.
Was in a few musicals in Highschool, and do extra'ing in local independent films. I feel most alive when doing that, I also like bicycling and hiking, used to go to concerts everyweek when I had money.
I was obsessed with the stock market, til I lost 99.98% overnight.
I sometimes get hooked on videogames or just find myself daydreaming the day away.
So, that's a bit about me. Thanks for reading!
Good night/morning all!

My name is also Dave and I am 25.

Indeed the economy is terrible right now, many are in your situation I am employed but want a better job, so if I did someday I would be happy to give you my current one, heh.

Its tough because I too have had several interviews and never got hired :-(. Sucks because like you I can definatly do a good job I just need to be able to get thru the worst part.

I wish ya luck and hope soon you can find something you enjoy.

What might be good is to take an any old job at a fast food place. You won't be given full hours, so the time you're not working you still look for the work you want while some money is coming in and there's food to eat.
Do you go to the asperger's support group in Portland? I go most months.

Yeah, I'm certainly looking for something too and I know what you mean about interviews, it shows the real mental apartheid in this country.

Just keep going.

Yeah, looking for work can be depressing. I see descriptions of jobs I like, but I don't usually match the description of what they require. I'm not sure many people will employ a person with social anxiety issues, and doesn't have the experience, as they've been in the same mundane job for about 8 years.

Dave's not here, man... come back later.

Hola! Glad you've found someplace to connect with others.

Thanks for all the nice welcome messages.
I tend to post messages / send emails and then not check them for a couple days.
I don't expect anyone to reply right away and have trouble coming up with something to write.
I'm still applying for jobs, like security guard, tech support, cruise ship deck stewart, graphic designer, air leakage sealer in hvac.
Even jobs at fast food places in my area are hard to get and want experience.
I've got a couple acting gigs and auditions coming up, they don't pay, but they're always a lot of fun. Well one is deffered if its successful. I guess if I had a job I wouldn't be able to do the acting gigs because most give last-minute notice. I'd have no way to know when to ask for time off from work in advance.

I am also looking for a job and am also 26. I am employed in a job thats okay except I want something else. I have had a few interviews recently, jobs I really wanted and got knocked back. I took a job just recently and rang up the morning I was supposed to start and said I didn't want it. I feel kind of bad......
Anyways, keep on trying till I get my golden ticket....
My partner was recently an extra in 'The Pacific' (supposedly similar to 'Band Of Brothers'), she got paid though.... I was jealous
