Just an FYI, this thread is not about the merits of gun control or gun politics in general, but about enjoying guns and the shooting sports. Thank you for your cooperation, and if you WOULD like to debate the merits of gun control, I'm currently batting around a certain Slow Canadian over in the current events section :P

Anyway, now that that's out of the way, every other hobby seems to have an appreciation thread on here, so why not mine? I've been seriously into guns about 12 years now, though I've been facinated with them much longer than that. I have a burgeoning collection, I think I'm up to around 17 at the moment. I'm mostly into handguns, though I have a number of rifles, an AK74 knock off, all sorts of fun stuff. Since I'm licensed to, I like to tote my handguns around, which can be like a game, how many can I conceal without becoming obvious? Depends on what I'm wearing, if it's a duster I can hide that AK in addition to most of my pistols if I really feel like it. Mostly though, I switch between my 4 inch S&W model 19, my 1911A1, or my Glock 26 in 9mm. The Glock is the easiest to hide, but I have better holsters for the Smith or the 1911. I have a 10mm auto that I absolutely adore, but no one makes a holster for it, or at least a non custom and affordable one. The 10 is heavier than most of my other pistols, but it hits really hard and it's dead on accurate, plus it was cheap!

I actually have a degree in gunsmithing, but I don't get to do it very often. I'm always tinkering with my own stuff, but there's fairly limited employment opportunities in Seattle for a gunsmith. Hopefully, someday I'll be able to put my expertise to work on some ideas I have, but till then, I'll just tinker and enjoy myself.

I just use guns for hunting. Not a gun nut or anything.

I use to like hunting, mostly birds, but I haven't done any in about 20 years now, don't
like killing deer or elk, hit enough in my truck, not very fun doing that very often.

I used to be a gun nut when I was younger, but I don't hunt anymore(I might this year) and I'm not allowed to own a gun, so I sold them all.

I still love guns though, and will own more someday. 8) :)

I would firing guns if my ears weren't so sensitive. Even with head phones on, my ears still ring painfully. :x

..Theres something here called a 12-7, not sure of the english name when I think of it, but thats special, its so big that you ride it more than you shoot it :) you just hold on and pray really, the shells are about 6 inches long and an inch thick. Not a gun nut, but like the explotions.

Well I know barely anything about guns...although I have many memories of shooting shot guns when I was about 6 years old at my dads farm. My dad was holding onto me so I didn't fly backwards as I pulled the trigger. 8O
Stupid idiot...could have gotten us both killed! At that age I didn't know any better.

Thats how you learn :) better with him than alone, my nephew found some shotgunshells one time (at the neighbour where he lives), hit them with something and shot himself in the finger :) Everything went ok and he`ll never do that again :) My dad did the same thing as your dad, smart men, and I`m thankful for that. Or else I would probably have blown my head off at some point as a kid, by accident

We have a 17 rifle, a 38 special, and just got a shotgun. We live on a ranch so we basically use them as tools (rodent control, predator control, method of euthanizing sick livestock). I've never hunted but I've put down badly injured deer. We don't use our firearms for recreation, but other family members do.

I had a friend in gun school who had an amusing mishap with a short shotgun. He'd been out in the woods blowing up stumps with some friends, when he mistakenly grabbed a couple of turkey loads out of a big bag of shells he was carrying. Now to those of you who don't hunt turkey, shotgun shells for that purpose are loaded very heavy, since turkey is often shot at much greater distance than you'd normally use a shotgun at. My friend was shooting from the hip, firing both barrels at once, and when he touched off the turkey loads, the results where interesting. The gun actually blew out of his hands, flew through the air, and landed about 10 feet behind him. The front sight ripped him across the side as it flew past, giving him an interesting new scar, as well as turning his shirt into a new shop rag. The action broke open when it hit the ground, and was sitting there smoking when he turned around. Needless to say, this friend no longer carries mixed bags of shells when he goes woods bumming.

Mighty forces, I`ve almost dislocated my shoulder a few times because I`ve underestimated it. Once I put a shotgun shell in the ground two inches in front of my left foot, beacuse I didnt pay attention  imagine my face, and relief there after
